report them enough in 1992 four sexual offenses were reported m 1993 seven m 1994 one and so far m 1995 1996 only one sexual offense has been reported however seven sexual assaults have been reported m the counseling center this year five of them were acquaintance rape according to the ms survey one m 12 men committed acts that met the legal definitions of ijuaintance rape or attempted rape wever pi lambda phi fraternity is attempting to recolonize their lehigh chapter as the university's first substance-free fraternity if enough students show an interest m this idea the fraternity will start recruiting new members with the hopes of attaining uni versity recognition and housing by the fall of 1997 the active brothers at lehigh were placed on alumni status ear lier this year due to financial problems and now their interna tional headquarters is trying to re establish their place on campus they have placed an adver tisement m the brown and white and are awaiting student response before moving ahead with the proposed idea alan wunsch executive direc tor of pi lam said we see a need for a different kind of frater nity at lehigh and think there is an interest we are not trying to change the university socially we're just providing an alternative he said it has not yet been decided whether the fraternity will recolo nize as both the university and the fraternity are waiting to see what response they receive scott walter greek affairs coordinator said it's not been exactly decided but they wanted to let people know they would be coming back next year and were trying to find out how many peo ple are interested m the sub stance-free idea should the recolonization take place there will be no alcohol allowed m the house at any time and tobacco will probably be out lawed as well the brothers would only be allowed to hold functions and parties involving alcohol at off campus locations wunsch said the house would be self-governing and would not have a list of rules handed down to them from the fraternity he believes that this opportu see pi lam page 7 ty this will be pi lam's first sub stance-free house across the country however both wunsch and walter pointed out that sub stance-free houses appear to be a growing trend on campuses nity for the future brothers to set and follow their own rules is the only way the idea will work the substance-free recolo were just friends i wanted to establish a guy friend m a fraternity it felt good that he was actually a friend to me and nothing else one month later terri saw mike at a fra ternity party and he was very rude to her i can't remember what he said to me but he totally blew me off terri said i went up to him to say hi and he said something like get away or something and that really pissed me off the next night friday terri saw mike at another fraternity party she ignored him and danced with her girl friends she was there only an hour when mike finally approached her and began aggressively dancing with her he kept getting m front of me and grab bing me she said my friends and i were trying to switch with each other and i kept ignoring him but he didn't get the point terri went to the bar to get a beer he then came up to me and tried to talk to me because i was a freshman i think i was a little more naive than usual she said i started to listen to what he had to say and he said i just want to talk and apologize and explain everything " mike said that the party was too loud and asked her if they could go to his room to talk i totally thought he was sincere i mean we were friends i agreed that the party set * some names have been changed to pro tect anonymity terri 96 and her sorority pledge sisters prepared themselves for a friday night on the hill her freshman year she let her long blonde hair hang loose on her shoulders and applied the finishing touches of her makeup she decided to wear a white body suit and her favorite jeans that accentuated her slim figure terri and her friends headed up the hill before they entered the fraternity party they reminded each other of their secret safety code if anything went wrong and remember don't leave each other's sight they said terri had felt secure with their pact and was confident that she would have a good time but terri did not enjoy her friday night her friend mike raped her tern's story is not uncommon in a recent study of acquaintance rape on 32 college campuses ms magazine concluded that one m four women were victims of rape or attempted rape even more shocking 84 per cent of those raped knew their attackers
