bahrenburg news writer with the thanksgiving break just around the corner hundreds of mem bers from the lehigh community put on their running shoes and got themselves into the holiday spirit by participating m the 42nd annual tur key trot thursday the 2.6-mile run began outside packer memorial chapel and wound through the campus past the frater nities on the hill and back down to the maginnes lawn of the 425 registered participants 287 runners crossed the finish line the race is part of the year long intramural competition and teams can use the race to add points to their score jane josephson director of intramural and club sports ran the event and said she was very pleased with the outcome of the race this event takes a lot of prepa please see turkey page 6 three teams were the women's run ning team the crew team and the soccer team stephanie laski 99 ran with other members of the crew team » i really enjoyed participating because it was not only a lot of fun it was a team-bonding experience as well stephanie laski 99 5 i really enjoyed participating because not only was it a lot of fun it was a team-bonding experience as well laski said participating as independent groups the top scorers were the men's crew team the frisbee team and the men's lacrosse team joe youngblood 96 a member of the men's crew team said he was satisfied with the team's over all performance as well as his own personal performance — as a team we did very well plus we had a good time especially because we were not expected to do this well youngblood said personally i was also very pleased with myself because my time was much faster than it was last year several freshman residence _ halls also participated led by the palmer/stevens group and followed closely by the stoughton williams group and richards a2 josephson is looking forward to next year's turkey trot after this year's great success ration and the campus always seems to come through to run the turkey trot josephson said this year we were a little concerned about the weather conditions and we were very lucky that they were ok be cause safety is always my first / priority with anything this year's event was not only safe but was a success as well josephson said many participants ran with their living groups or sports teams each organization was represented by a group of five to 10 runners the top three overall finish ers were the brodhead house — group alpha chi rho fraternity and sigma chi fraternity all three teams were rewarded with turkey trot t shirts and trophy points which will go double overtime the win gave the engineers the patriot league championship see page 16 theta delta chi fraternity will recognize its lehigh chapter for the fall of 1997 but it will not be affected by a new interfraternity council policy on recolonization during last tuesday's ifc meeting scott walter greek affairs coordinator discussed the time table for the recolonization process theta delta chi will be sending representa tives from their nationals to actively recruit mem bers walter said the consultants will be here ci ther at the end of this semester or during the first two weeks of february next semester and they are looking to recruit somewhere from 20 to 25 brothers theta delt had its lehigh chapter revoked after being found guilty of violating lehigh's policies prohibiting hazing m 1992 theta delt s recolonization has prompted the ifc to change its policy on the way fraternities come to campus right now the ifc has the power to deter mine which fraternities comeback to campus and whether they will be a part of the ifc board ben malekzadeh 96 president of the ifc said the ifc board needs to control the number of fraternities on the hill there are too many fraternities on lehigh's campus malekzadeh said we have to be care ful to meet the university's occupancy standards and we can barely do that now . we have to protect the fraternities that are on
