an an interview monday mr ramberg issued the following statement the chapel committee has large scale plans under way for opening the chapel and keeping it open permanently the committee ap pointed by arcadia to investigate the reason for the chapel's not be ing open has proceeded in its work along the following lines first an investigation was made as to the previous attempts at keeping the chapel open and the reasons for failure next steps were taken to evolve a plan for a smoothly functioning permanent chapel schedule outsiders invited to attend mr ramberg also said this plan cannot be disclosed entirely at the present time because the proper authorities have not ap proved it as yet and all the par ticipants have not given their complete consent however it may be said that we intend to extend the scope of attendance beyond the student body exclusively we have the cooperation of the alum ni the administration the faculty and the students and therefore have great hopes for success this plan will be published as soon as possible but at the present time there are services being held on sunday morning under the aus pices of dr beardslee further in formation concerning these serv ices can be obtained by consulting dr beardslee personally the success or failure for the continuing operation of the chapel will depend of course for the most part on the student body and it is believed that every one of you will sooner or later realize and act according to the dictates of his conscience in the fulfillment of his obligations change in b & w distribution system the brown and white will no longer be distributed from the le high printing company any living group desiring its quota can re ceive same in packaged form in the b & w cubicles situated on the first floor of drown hall jack turner circulation manager an nounced that he would like all living groups to inform him as to the correct number of b&w's they desire saturday's vocalists arcadia's palm prom is featured saturday baseball team to face swarthmore advance sale of tickets ends tonight the great day saturday august 4 is approaching all plans for the terrific extraordinary stupendous palm prom sponsored by arcadia have been completed ken keeley features jerry o'day ken keeley and his orchestra featuring that gorgeous glamorous songbird terry o'day will furnish the music both hot and sweet for your dancing pleasure this keeley outfit is one of the fastest rising stars in the music world and is booked for hamid's pier soon af ter its engagement at lehigh richard fuehrer to perform as an added bethlehem the members expressed a great desire to see a similar project developed for next summer and each suc ceeding summer dean congdon acted as toast master at the luncheon which was attended by more than 60 teachers and educators of greater lehigh valley invocation was pronounced by dr gilmore an assistant di rector of the teachers workshop w george hayward in a short but nonetheless interesting talk placed heavy emphasis on the im portance of this product to the lo cal community he believed that in such a democracy as ours the only way to attain the truly demo cratic spirit was the epitome staff because of the shortages in photographic mater ials and difficulties in keeping the editorial and photographic staffs intact in the face of service calls the 1945 epitome has been unable to meet its planned schedule but now the entire editorial layout and all photographs are in the hands of hibbert printing company of trenton n j and horan engrav ing company of new york city mr thomas mclaughlin of hib bert printing company promises an interesting and well put to gether annual in spite of the lacks in photographic excellence which have suffered from drastic changes in printing materials for war-time photos richard macadams and ed or cutt aided by professor rights took over the completion of the epitome from the original staff which was headed by edward gross as editor and herbert ky nor as photo editor later replaced by john hanley ed orcutt took over the photo work with his new members of the brown and white staff and with his able assistance the final touches were given to the photographic layout the 1945 epitome will be an other stepping stone in the record ed history of the life of lehigh university through the years the final glance of graduating and un dergraduate members at their ca reers has always been garnered in these annuals a rich source of candid pictures on lehigh's do ings makes the modern year book continued on page 4 town council again active town council's first mass meet ing of the semester accomplished important things for the assembled group of approximately 75 men after president jack tuberty called the meeting to order he asked members of the audience for their opinions on various activities proposed at a previous meeting sizeable number of men ex pressed a desire to form a bowl ing league and a softball league other activities such as a picnic and a juke-box dance were plan ned the picnic will in all proba bility be held in the middle of august and the dance at the end ai august all men wishing to enter the bowling league are asked to con tact either james downs the new ly-appointed athletic secretary jack tuberty or the arcadia sec retary the teams will consist of three men each but those inter ested may register individually and then form teams those interested in forming a sofeball league should also contact the same three people the meeting was attended by a fairly large number of town men and from the interest shown by those present town council should have an active season also on the list of the items dis cussed at the meeting was the student directory this directory in past years was published by the university but a few semesters ago under the leadership of wil liam d petti t the town council published and distributed the di rectory of the undergraduates at the university needless to say everyone real ized the importance of this town council publication therefore it was the consensus of opinion of the men at the mass meeting that the publication should once again ap pear on the campus under the auspices of the group sunday chapel proposed by committee brown & white lehigh university mcl ramberg chairman announces future plans mcl
