for he has played nearly every saturday this past autumn and winter in the odd fellows hall in allen town and was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended the af fairs rader last played at lehigh on february 12 1944 when the astp held its regimental ball he played in conjunction with harry romig another band leader of the valley and the sweet music and excellent arrangements that both bands provided helped to make the dance a tremendous success price of the tickets will be 3.30 tax included and all those wish ing to buy tickets had better hurry because sale at that price closes on may 30 after that tickets will have to be purchased at the door for 3.60 some extra entertainment will be provided in the afternoon by a baseball game with lafayette at 3 o'clock and a tennis match with chaperones must have tickets and petitions by various groups to house female guests must be in by saturday may 26 dr diefenderfer recovers slowly several weeks ago the students began to miss the familiar face of professor diefenderfer around the campus after investigating it was discovered that for the past four weeks he has been quite ill about four weeks ago the pro fessor was operated on for a seri ous gall bladder condition about two weeks after the operation professor diefenderfer was out of the hospital and on the road to recovery new chem lab is planned a new organic chemistry lab oratory for the sole purpose of research has been decided upon by the university it has been re ported the money collected so far amounts to 2,750 and has been given to the chemistry de partment by the university the setting of the new lab will be the former museum on the first floor of the old building the cases and other equipment that are now situated there will be used as much as possible and the rest will be used throughout the chem building some given to other buildings and the remainder being stored the best and most modern equipment available will be used but if certain apparatus cannot be obtained until after the war the department has announced that it will wait until the end of the war rather than purchase any ersatz material mr litzen berger has announced that work will morning in packard audi torium lindholm outstanding as holder of both baseball and wrestling cups macadams heads arcadia lindholm takes two awards an all-around student and star athlete bud was awarded both the lehigh home club wrestling cup and medal offered each year to the bach festival held in packer chapel lovers of the music of johann sebastian bach gathered in beth lehem saturday from over two dozen states to attend the thirty eighth bach festival held in packer memorial chapel on le high's campus in spite of travel restrictions and inclement wea ther this year marks the largest attendance in thirty-eight years of the musical event the festival which is a choral rendition of bach's major works was a two-day affair this year and featured a chorus of 250 voices under the direction of dr ifor jones conductor of the bach choir since 1939 in addition six soloists from the metropolitan opera company and a section of the philadelphia symphony or chestra accompanied the members of the regular choir so great was the overflow of people that the loudspeaker sys tem in packard laboratory was turned on and those who were unable to obtain admittance to packer chapel heard the concert from there unfavorable wea ther conditions prevented to a large extent the mass gatherings of people on the lawns outside the chapel which have always added to the color and gaiety of the festival ushers for the affair were re cruited from the lehigh student body war bond show held approximately 18,000 war bond and stamp purchasers were pres ent saturday evening in taylor stadium to witness an army show realistic enactment of combat scenes in the here's your infantry presentation were brought here under the auspices of the usa-cio to spur purchases during the seventh war loan drive the gl's most of them veter ans of european and pacific en gagements were very skilful in demonstrating the use of infantry weapons in real engagements these soldiers were under the di rection of lts vallupeck and bollmeyer van r bittner of washington vice-president of the cio con gratulated the throng on its pa triotic efforts in helping bring the war to a close by buying war bonds and stamps he also urged the steel workers the business men and their families to continue not only on their war jobs but to do their best in contributing their savings to the war effort to buying more semester for lehigh's social life for from 10 p m until 2 a m sunday the arcadia spring prom will be held saturday june 2nd ten to two grace hall are time and place for the spring prom week end or week-end at the present time a joint student-faculty committee is work ing on the feasibility of houseparties at lehigh on the weekend of june 2nd one of lehigh's now famous social weekends will be held we students can never hope for an improved situation unless we whole-heartedly support this june prom the student wishes can only hope to be affirmed if we show by an a-l attendance that le high really wants and needs social affairs
