lovers that they found a similar institution his idea met with hearty approval after 14 months of rehearsing the choir gave its first concert in the moravian church in 1900 the program which has been outlined according to mrs free dr t edgar shields professor of music at lehigh became the organist of the society in 1901 charles schwab bethlehem steel magnate was president of the so ciety for many years war bond show opens town drive sham battle feature of evening's events headed by commando kelly forty-five veterans from fort og lethorpe georgia will be on hand in taylor stadium saturday night at eight to put on a sham battle to open the seventh war loan drive in bethlehem the evening is to commence with a parade beginning at the corner of third and new streets at 6:45 when the liberty high school band under the leadership of mr joseph ricapito will lead the infantry veterans into taylor stadium sham battle following the parade there will be a band concert by the liberty high band which will be immedi ately followed by the sham bat tle no one will be allowed on the field except those actually taking part due to the possibility of injury from flying stones dy caps will be used for the explo sions but the danger from debris will still be great the show entitled here's your infantry is being presented to arouse interest in the infantry the men who actually take the ground that is won it has been noted that the infantry in recent times has been the least popular of the various branches of the armed forces and it is hoped that this show may do something to al leviate this situation tickets may be acquired at any place where war bonds are sold by the simple expediency of buy ing a bond upon the purchase of your bond a ticket will be given you on request , have no fear if you intend to be present that the affair will be rained out as infantry battles are not dependent upon the wea ther the show will go on rain or shine let the heavens do their worst the troup presenting the show is touring the east on the behalf of the seventh war . loan drive and will be in allentown on fri day night and journey to strouds burg for the following monday's performance flag pole day to be held friday exercises include awards tappings at 11:00 a m friday may 18 lehigh students will observe one of their university's oldest traditions — that of flag pole day which has been an observance from the earliest days of the school presentation of cane the highlight of the program will be the official transfer of the five man committee cane symbol of campus leadership to the new chairman of the committee who was elected tuesday bill weh ner chem e june 45 present chairman will make the presen tation and at the same time the names of the other newly elected members of the committee will be announced brown and white lehigh university tappings for the various hon oraries omicron delta kappa pi delta epsilon delta omicron theta and cyanide will also be held at this ceremony and those men accepted by these organiza tions will be presented to the stu dent body eb caraway director of athlet ics will award letters and certifi cates for varsity sports and sev eral cups will be presented to the men who were outstanding in each sport the persons who will make the presentations have been select ed by prof fay c bartlett head of the department of physical edu cation the only cup to be award ed this year in recognition of stu dent leadership will be the bosey reiter leadership cup although flag pole day is pri marily a student affair in the sense that the exercises are de signed to award student achieve ment the faculty administration and friends of the university are invited to attend the program committee has extended invita tions to faculty and administration members through dean palmer who will speak briefly at the exer cises during the ceremony the uni versity band will play various se lections and will close the pro gram with the alma mater bill boothby le feb 46 will act as master of ceremonies the mem bers of the program committee are albert e vetrosky arts june 45 allan goodman arts june 46 and richard huyett me june 46 ce society hears durkee sham battle opens drive ... this saturday evening will see a group of veterans headed by commando kelly put on a sham battle in taylor stadium as an opening for the seventh war loan drive in bethlehem a parade which will begin at the corner of third and new streets will be the start of the night's events the parade starting at 6:45 will be ac companied by the liberty high school band here's your infantry is the name of the show which is being presented to depict the queen of battle's role in modern warfare tickets will be given to anyone who purchases a war bond which may be bought at many of the stores in town be on hand for an interesting evening
