brought fame to himself and to his alma mater through the war first lieutenant arnold a lasser 22 has been awarded the oak leaf cluster to the air medal for mer itorious achievement during the eight air force bombing attacks on german militory and industrial installations lieut lasser who is the son of mr and mrs milton lasser of 55 fryer terrace new rochelle n.y is a navigator on a b-17 flying fortress in the third air divi sion which was cited by the pres ident for england to africa shut tle bombing while at lehigh lieut lasser was a member of sigma alpha mv fraternity and of the advanced rotc unit lehigh to sponsor paper-speech clinic debating meet in afternoon „_ plans for the extemporaneous speaking contesjt sponsored by delta omicron theta national de bating honorary have been com april 13 at lehigh in room 256 packard lab on the topic resolved that legislation be en acted providing for the compul sory military training of all male youths between the ages of 18 and 20 upholding the affirmative against jack miller and richard friedenberg of columbia were william pettit and jack tuberty of lehigh shortly after that on the fol lowing monday april 16 the same question was debated at ur sinus with jack tuberty and rob ert ochs of lehigh defending the negative against erma keyes and betsy clayes of ursinus , on april 18 at moravian col lege for men the lehigh valley debating society held a meeting and debated the following two topics resolved that the boun daries of 1876 be restored to ger many and resolved that eco nomic control of germany be placed in the peace treaty messrs reuman and mather of muhlenberg defended the affirma tive of the former question against blanche krupnick and sylvia garfinkel of cedar crest and charles hafner and jack tuberty of lehigh upheld the affirmative of the latter question against laura fairchild and phyllis ja cobson of moravian college for women symposium set for journalists a journalism symposium spon sored by the lehigh chapter of pi delta epsilon national journalism honorary will be held this satur day morning may 5 from 10 until 12:30 in packard laboratory the affair is an urban and interurban one with representatives invited from ten high schools in the near by valley those high schools which have been invited to send representa tives to the symposium are liber ty high bethlehem catholic al lentown allentown catholic hel lertown fountain hill emmaus wilsonboro easton and catasau qua dale gramley speaker mr dale gramley city editor of the bethlehem globe-times and grand master of pi delt will laboratory where a display has been arranged to disclose various forms in newspaper typography locked printers forms will be on display among them the brown and white locked forms of this issue charts saturday night on broughal high stage by dick mesirov last saturday night in broughal high school auditorium an audi ence of over 300 saw the mustard and cheese club present william saroyan's five act comedy time of your life this was the first play produced by the organization since last summer goodman in lead role capably filling the lead role of joe a champagne drinking loafer with money and a good heart was club president allen goodman who interpreted saroyan's character with marked ability joe's only apparent occupation was philoso phizing for his own amusement his source of income was dubious although horse racing seemed to be a contributing fa lor his ap parently unlimited supply of funds was spent for sundry articles in cluding baby's toys and a world map helping joe to spend his time and money was tom played by jon epstein who joe had be friended three years before the scene of the play 1939 and had been his friend and companion ever since betty steams in female lead betty steams in the part of kitty duval came under joe's philosophy shook off the bonds of her despicable life and eventual ly married tom after blick head of the city vice squad had been murdered by kit carson blick portrayed by roger tove seemed to think that nick's bar the scene of the play was a dive and that kitty duval was work ing from there as he accused kitty kit carson in reality dick macadams a westerner who had had all sorts of experiences took matters into his own hands and shot blick twice killing him supporting roles well filled the audience found out that there was no foundation all the way down the line from arab hans baer who was in a perpet ual drunken condition after being served by bartender tom lewis dick heilman and fred raifl provided nicks with entertain ment heilman giving out with a solid piano and yellow-trousered raiff supplying the dancing the supporting players were also well cast and seemed to fill saroyan's characters the entire production was un der the direction of faculty ad visor professor albert a rights don shettel was in charge of changing broughal high's stage into nick's bar while business manager seymour glatzer was in charge of props david gerb was in charge of ticket sales all cos tumes were arranged by bob maver june 2 picked for arcadia dance at a recent meeting of the ar cadia dance committee it was decided by the group to hold its first dance of this semester on saturday evening june 2 as this will be the last big so cial event of the semester it promises to be a big weekend so get your date now before it's too late parts of the university 5 it gives the men a chance to exercise leadership 6 it promotes friendship and comradeship among its members 7 it recognizes achievements attained during freshman and class officers was abandoned in favor of a committee of five men elected from the student body at large by popular vote under this committee are combined the duties of all class officers arcadia is
