see senate page a8 according to joe sterrett di rector of athletics it is only fair that freshman players be informed of the bad track record facing them at the same time he is also a firm believer in what the greek system has to offer i believe deeply in the positive aspects of fraternity life he said as a student at lehigh i person ally did better academically after i affiliated with a fraternity i also recognize however that greek life is not for everyone both sterrett and koski assured the senate that players were in formed that if they had any prob lems concerning greek life they should not hesitate to speak with them i do not want any players per sistent in feeling that they can't pledge sterrett said students have to opportunity to make deci sions about their own fives and we are here to support that glenn mackenzie 94 senate vice president asked both koski and sterrett if they would address their players again on this issue stressing that if the players received a bid they are free to go ahead and pledge without any adverse reper cussions i just think it should have been made more clear that it's ok mackenzie said by lori mccarthy news writer men s soccer coach dean koski told the student senate members last week that it was news to him that he would bench freshmen players who choose to pledge fra ternities yet with not one of the nine players pledging this semester many senate members feel that it is obvious that koski pressured his players not to go greek my priority koski told sen ate members is to ensure that team members get a good educa tion and are successful in the class room i certainly did discourage freshmen from pledging at least in their first year he said according to ken hoexter 93 , senate president such discourage ment can be taken much more seri ously by a freshman player than peihaps intended coming from a freshmen per spective this seems like a man date he said koski said that fraternity life combined with school work and division i athletics have caused many of his past players to struggle academically last year seven of eight fresh men players pledged and received a cumulative grade point average of 1.81 this year that average is 2.41 see career page a8 urban studies major i'm not worried about getting a job but i know i'm not going to get one through career services she said marilyn mackes director of career services said that because the arts and science college offers students a variety of vocational choices students must be willing to research the different careers and resources that are available to them i don't think lehigh listings is the only mea by vivian shpigler news writer lehigh's career services has experienced a no ticeable recovery in the number of employers who are coming on campus to interview however many lehigh students who are in the college of arts and science feel that they do not benefit from this recovery a number of seniors in the college of arts and science use the lehigh listings solely as a gauge of the help available to them lehigh listings is all geared towards business and engineering majors said hillary schwartz 93 an npr reporter describes supreme court diversity vol 100 no 31 friday february 26 1993 the brown and white lehigh university by jonathon schuppe special to the brown and white nina totenberg national public radio's legal affairs correspondent spoke about her experience covering the supreme court as well as giving insight into the court s current state in packard laboratory feb 15 totenberg is best known for her coverage of the watergate and iran-contra affairs and controversial supreme court nominations her role in breaking the story of professor anita hill's sexual harassment allegations against supreme court nominee clarence thomas in 1991 placed her in the national spotlight she reports on npr's all things con sidered morning edition and weekend see court page a8 edition she is also a contributing corre spondent for nbc news totenberg s lecture covering the courts cases convictions and confirma tions wasthe 1992-1993 rocco j tresolini lectureship in law she said that the next four years of president bill clinton's administration will be interesting in the supreme court i said that the direction of the court will be determined by the presidential election and i stand by that prophecy she said she explained that with the imminent retirement of two justices justices harry blackmun and byron white clinton will b*w photo by rana taylor nina totenberg legal affairs correspondent for national public radio coach refutes allegations of anti-greek attitude roses are red violets are blue ... andrew levenson 95 and the rest of delta phi fraternity hosted their 14th annual valentine's day dinner for residents from the fred b rooney building located on east 4th street career services aids job search b*w photo by keh hoexteb 90s hip-hop respected for the right reasons page b1
