the brown and white vol 99 n0.20 tuesday november 19 1991 lehigh university fraternities warned by laura schmidt administrators plan to end tradition of tearing goalposts down after lehigh-lafayette brown and white news writer administrators explained the increased secu rity measures and stiffer penalities surrounding the use of metal goalposts at saturday's lehigh lafayette game at an interfraternity council meeting on nov 5 dean of students mark erickson and athletic director joe sterrett presented their report to the ifc confirming the use of metal goalposts and increased security measures designed to prevent the violence surrounding the tearing down of the goalposts this year's different students must be respon sible just like the rest of the year the focus should be on the game erickson said erickson and sterrett requested the house presidents tell their brothers that any rushing of the field will not be tolerated and will be stopped by increased security this year erickson said any person attempting to get near the goalposts will be arrested erickson warned don't put yourself in jeop ardy by trying to go on the field larry webster 92 president of zeta psi fra ternity said tradition will be hard to break students must hear this from different sources webster said they won't take it seriously com ing just from their house presidents in response to this erickson and sterrett are planning to set up times to discuss the situation with the brothers of each house adam schildkraut 92 president of delta sigma phi fraternity asked if a house will be held ac countable for the actions of individuals in response erickson told the ifc that a house will not be involved with trouble caused by an individual unless the action is proven to be asso 8&w photo by many fans disappointed with their new sound mick jones above an original member of the band plays some chords alcohol allegations affect wlvr staff by lisa rigazio brown and white news writer allegations of alcohol consump tion at wlvr has caused reduced air time for disk jockeys on the commu nity staff wlvr's community staff which works during vacations had their schedule reduced from 24-hour seven days-a-week to a 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m week day-only slot the decision was made by wlvr general manager annie paghidas 92 and the 7-member executive board we're not cutting air-time because of irresponsibility on anyone's part but in reaction to reports of alcohol in the studio paghidas said we have a responsibility to the federal com munications commission to not broadcast people under the influence of alcohol jeff kocher the head of the com munity staff has pulled his staff from wlvr in reaction to the unexpected accusations and cut in air-time he called the morning callx who published a story about the situation last week new policy could restrict campus postering by heather reilly brown and white news writer last semester the student senate drafted a new poster policy which if passed would limit all campus postering to des ignated bulletin boards and hit violators with up to a 300 fine the policy would apply to all univer sity organizations as well as off campus groups and take-out menus postered by restaurants the poster policy would forbid pos tering on trees doors and sidewalks taping creating an announcement in tape letters and painting would also be prohibited according to goodman postering of university property is prohibited and first time violators receive a written warning second lime violators are subject to a 25 fine a 300 fine will be issued to third time offenders senate member jodie goodman 93 who is in charge of the committee re sponsible for drafting the policy said all of the money collected from the fines will go directly to the construction of new bulletin boards or the repair of existing bulletin boards such as the one in front of mcclintic-marshall house according to goodman if an organi zation wishes to poster for an event they must submit all the copies they want posted to the senate office for evalu ation a poster has to be in accordance with guidelines established by the dean of students a poster will not be approved if it carries any negative connotations towards any groups goodman said goodman said the policy could be passed before thanksgiving break the policy has already been approved by dean of students mark erickson but has yet to be passed by the senate and forum under the proposed plan each group is responsible for submitting the number of photo copies they want postered maps of bulletin board locations will be made available to groups wishing to poster on them the idea for the poster policy was in troduced last semester to eliminate ex cess paper waste on campus goodman commented the closed party system has eliminated a lot of the litter now that fraternities can no longer poster for parties but more has to be done see wlvr page 15 see ifc page 2 crazy cures and deadly medicines
