row from left to right are hildebrandt mertz tuttle anderson and stanley back row kaplan stocker jones and dennis an interest in dance band work experience not a requiste is wel come to try out for this organiza tion rehearsals are held every wednesday night at 7:30 p m in drown hall big pre-game rally features frosh skits torchlight pajama parade limited to campus to replace traditional moravian serenade the second pre-lafayette game rally of the 1944 season will take place friday evening nov 17 at 7:30 in the lower gym this rally will be featured by freshman skits humorizing the time honored lehigh-lafayette ri valry both first and second sem ester freshmen will present the skits which have not been included in rally programs since the fall of 1942 these attempts by the frosh must be ready for presentation by thursday evening nov 16 at 7:30 when they will be previewed by a rally committee in drown hall this committee headed by ed ward luckenbach chem e feb 46 and consisting of members of cyanide and three faculty mem bers will judge the skits and de cide which ones will be put on at the rally judgment will be on the basis of humor and original ity not extravagance and gaudi ness freshmen in the living groups are encouraged to give this con test their utmost support and help make the rally a huge success according to the tentative pro gram the speakers at the rally will be coach leo prendergast wrestling coach billy sheridan acting captain peter kitson assis tant director of admissions paul j franz and willard s booth by i e oct 45 master of cere monies as usual there will be cheers led by the cheerleaders and songs accompanied by the band there will probably be movies of 1942 lehigh football games the rally will close with a pajama parade led by the band around campus ending at th c flagpole with the singing of the alma mater soccer team mauls mules on wednesday november 8 the lehigh university soccer team won its last game of the season by defeating muhlenberg four to two the game was started with lehigh kicking off and proceeded with neither side showing more strength than the other a minute before the end of the first quarter bob schulz lehigh's big left half back kicked the ball high in the air from the thirty yard line and it dropped into a corner of the goal for lehigh's first score there was no scoring in the second quarter but it was high lighted by the great defensive play of lehigh's goalie dick krauss and center halfback bud lindholm the half ended with the engineers leading one to nothing both of muhlenberg's scores came in the third quarter the first of these was scored by pax son the mules outside left who made a perfect cross shot shortly afterward rank put through muh lenberg's last goal on a penalty shot the score was soon evened when the lehigh forward line took the ball down the field by a series of short passes and george herman booted it through with the score tied at the start of the fourth quarter the lehigh team was determined to win the engineers made their third goal when pineda kicked a penalty shot in the closing minutes of the last quarter richardson boot ed through a fourth goal for le high to give the engineers the game by a safe margin when the soccer team won this continued on page 4 eddy test again opened by navy the navy anounced today that the eddy test for radio technician training can now be taken by men who have had a pre-induction ex amination this plan affords an opportunity for ten months training in radar to those men who are physically qualified for naval service those who successfully pass the eddy test are given letters of directed assignment and at the time of induction go into the naval service after induction these men are promoted to seamen first class and upon completion of the radio course become petty offi cers second class the eddy test is made up of com mon sense questions covering ele mentary mathematics shop prac tice general science and simple radio and electricity men who have taken their pre induction physical and have not received notice of their actual in duction into the armed forces may apply at the nearest navy recruiting station to take the eddy test for radar training combined musical clubs include student swingsters the collegians lehigh's student dance band is a member of the combined musical clubs which in normal times included the university band the glee club and the symphony orchestra today most of these individual groups are much smaller in size than before the war be cause of the proportionately smaller college enrollment the colle gians however are not necessarily affected by this condition because they are essentially a much smaller group in former days lehigh's dance mr-i octree u a roo q i «^+ i „+ school dances and functions but also at many various outside occa sions trips were made to many colleges in pennsylvania and jftew jersey clubs high schools and formal dinners were among the engagements when the glee club sang at various women's colleges the collegians traveled with them to play for a dance after the vo cal part of the program 1942 marked end under the leadership of james mulhearn in 1942 the band saw its big year in the spring of 43 the collegians were discontinued when the majority of its members entered the service in the sum mer of that year under the lead ership of bob jones the orches tra was once more revived and played many local engagements during the fall and winter semes ters once again during the spring and summer semesters enrollment fell off and they were forced to disband with the proportionately greater enrollment this semester the pos sibility of bringing this part of the musical clubs back to its for mer standing seems fairly reas onable rehearsals held two rehearsals have been held thus far and almost complete in strumentation lias been realized a drummer and tenor sax are the parts sorely needed at this time although the other chairs have been tentatively filled hardly any of them have t>een made definite as yet anyone therefore who has lehigh signs peace treaty with easton arcadia makes pact to keep the peace continuing a tradition inaugur ated in 1927 three members of arcadia invaded that institution in easton to sign a non-aggression pact for the weekend of the le high-lafayette football game the agreement concerns the mutual respect of property includ ing such objects as statues and goal posts previous violations have resulted in staggering damage bills paid by arcadia and the la fayette student council bill day bill boothby and bob mayer represented lehigh and ed podgorski barclay l hand and george c hull signed for the ma roon the text of the agreement follows the longest unbroken football rivalry in the united states is that between lehigh and lafayette we the arcadia of lehigh and the student council of lafayette agree to do all in our power to continue this tradition on a friendly basis we agree to establish a joint com mittee of three representatives from each institution which will be responsible for the administra tion of this agreement the last spectacular violation of the past occurred in 1942 when 1700 lehigh men absconded with fischer field goal posts and several lafayette class flags phi eta sigma pledges seventeen into society last evening at 7:30 phi eta sigma freshman honorary society pledged 17 men for consideration for membership the short cere mony took place at 466 packard lab with refreshments served af ter the pledging the men are chosen for mem bership by their scholastic grades and will probably be initiated as soon as the keys are obtained they are expected within two weeks the eligible candidates are frederick stocker robert mertz kenneth theile alvord beardslee david herder karl zimmerer george adler richard bodine al vey rushton gilpin jefferis jr valentino assetto ronald jeffrey leo achterman richard jones frank roberts all of the class of feb 47 and robert landy oct 46 joseph haftl was also chosen for membership but has with drawn from the university campus assured turn for better according to a statement issued by andrew a litzenberger su perintendent of grounds at le high the situation pertaining to the closing of buildings on campus will either remain static or pos sibly show a turn for the better the buildings now closed the chapel and the ground floor of grace hall were closed by order of the administrative committee grace hall was taken over by the army as a storage place for all the equipment it had bought for the astp unit here because it was the only place large enough to accommodate everything the chapel was closed because there was not sufficient call for it it will however be opened for any special function to be held there but no janitor service will be maintained as previously there is a possibility that the ground floor of grace hall might be opened in time for use as a basketball floor and also as a meeting place for wrestling meets brown and white lehigh university vol lii — no 18 attend the rally this friday evening at 7:30 in the lower gym cyanide is spon soring a real old-fashioned pre-lafayette game rally with pajamas skits cheers prominent speakers movies all topped off with a torch light parade after the rally around the campus everyone on cam pus is urged and invited to attend it will be a real introduction to the type of thing that sparked lehigh teams to victory over lafay ette in the past be in the lower gym friday at 7:30 to give that team of yours a real send-off and have a bang-up time doing so
