its members to exceed rotc standards heyman director of opera tions of arnold air said everyone hall damage bills may surprise students ifc approves closed party social policy 24 yes 5 no by jennifer provda brown and white news editor the interfraternity council over whelmingly approved a closed party policy to be implemented next semest er at its tuesday meeting of lehigh's 30 fraternities 24 house presidents voted in favor of the policy 5 against and one was absent the much talked about policy chan ge did not come as a surprise to the fraternity representatives i'm very happy that the council voted the way it did the overwhelm ing support indicates the seriousness with which the fraternities approach ed this issue said jeff goldberg/92 ifc president goldberg said closed parties are necessary because of today's social pressures the policy was developed in response to increased concern shown by national fraternities the lehigh community the greek alumni coun cil and greek students toward the potential risks associated with open parties goldberg explained the overwhelming i support indicates the i seriousness with which i the fraternities approached this issue jeff goldberg 92 ifc president the new policy will require chap ters to submit with its party registra tion forms a typed list of the no more than 250 guests it will admit to each party this list includes undergrad uate chapter brothers and pledges the fraternity may add to the origin al party list the names of 50 additional people in ink once a name has been added to the list it cannot be removed to add another name chapter alumni must sign up on a separate list before the party the number of people at the party must not exceed that house's fire code limit bracelets will be distributed to everyone inside the party including brothers pledges and alumni the number of bracelets supplied to the chapters will not exceed the fire code allowed number no guest may leave the party without returning his or her bracelet seegreekerpages see damage page 5 contest the winning hall or dorm will receive a reward possibly food for a study break through this program residential services hopes that damages and trash will be minimized and the number of charges will decrease another way to prevent all students from paying large damage fees is by charging only those responsible for the damage said keiper according to keiper billing individuals prevents charg ing future residents for damages incurred before their occupancy we're hoping that these charges will be an incentive for people to come out with who's responsible for the damage keiper said if you see someone throwing a rock through a window or an intoxicated person vandaliz ing your hall it is in your best interest to call the police by doing so students avoid paying extra fees and aid with the safety and care of university property by nerissa nonato brown and white news writer residence hall damage costs up to 30,000 each year to repair creating a nasty surprise for students when they open their bills but these charges are almost unavoidable without cooperation from the students themselves according to walter c keiper jr associate director of residential ufe in an effort to reduce these fees residential services is organizing a competition operation dorm storm designed to encourage halls to clean up their rooms before leaving them for the summer tentatively scheduled for may 1 dorm storm will require dormitory residence hall residents to bag their own trash encouraging friendly competition between students while saving themselves and the university money the hall that accumulates the most bags wins the the brown and white friday march 22,1991 vol 98 no 38 lehigh university soldiers deaths honored by the planting of trees by amy mulligan brown and white news writer as part of a nationwide program called project johnny appleseed leh igh's arnold air society planted two trees wednesday in rememberance of two servicemen from the lehigh val ley killed in operation desert storm the trees were planted on the corn er of memorial drive and taylor street on the lehigh campus and is dedicated to the memories of sgt edwin kutz 26 of scranton and spc william brace 24 of nazareth the tree planting was attended by lehigh's army and air force rotc brace's mother president peter lik ins the rev john mraz and members of the community mraz gave the invocation and jahn told the crowd that the cadets of the arnold air society pay tribute today with a living growing tree he emphasized that the best remembr ance is one which will live on taps was played as the crowd obser ved a moment of silence rob lomonaco an air force rotc from muhlenberg college said the dedication of the trees was both joy ous as it marks the end of the war but somber because two members will not be returning as it grows into maturity we will remember that in times of hardship we have endured together as a community said lomonaco feels really good about it arnold air is a service organization within the air force rotc more than 100 squadrons nationwide will take part in project johnny appleseed cacciatori said that this was our war and this rememberance meant something to me my contribution the arnold air society is taking donations for a plaque to be placed at the base of the tree lifestyle taking care of the kids page
