bethlehem pa wednesday october 4 1944 willard boothby william day robert mavek next semester sees recall of frosh regulations mayer elected five man head - day heads arcadia warren fox sanford wilson fox chosen headofm&c v warren fox ch.e f'4s was chosen president of mustard and cheese student dramatic society at the last meeting of the organ ization on wednesday sept 20 other officers elected were john harris arts 046 vice-president allan goodman arts j'46 busi ness manager ira birnbaum m.e f'46 stage manager and david simon ch.e f'46 arcadia repre sentative plans are now under way for the next presentation of the club scheduled to be a musical comedy entitled lehigh in review the play was entirely written by le high students five of whom did the main work on the script dave hughes earl wallick eric weiss clark and john dukek it deals with the origin and rise of lehigh on the slopes of south mountain depicted in a strictly farcical set ting beginning with asa packer continued on page 3 5 man board to be headed by bob mayer boothby fox day wilson also picked a new five-man committee on classes has recently been elected by the popular vote of the lehigh student body robert mayer ch.e j'4s william boothby i.e feb 46 warren fox ch.e feb.'4s wil liam day bus j'4s and sanford wilson ch.e j'4s came out on top in this order when the ballots provided in the september 27th issue of the b & w were finally tallied the five-man committee on classes is an organization necessi tated by the sharp decrease in the size of classes due to the war for merly there were of couise indi vidual class offiers such as presi continued on page 6 frosh hats ties socks are approved arcadia approves pre-war regulations lehigh's next incoming fresh man class will be welcomed by a set of frosh regulations compar able with those imposed on the south mountain neophytes in pre war years the decision to bring back the regulations which have been miss ing from lehigh since the fall of 1942 was made at monday night's arcadia meeting president wil liam j day announced that cyan ide junior honorary organization will be in charge of enforcing the regulations and dispensing disci pline to offenders as it did in the past first and foremost among the continued on page 2 dean releases credit news a number of students have come newly to the campus since any announcement has been made through the brown and white as to special provisions the univer sity has made for meeting the ex igencies of withdrawals upon calls to military service it seems proper now as many students are trying in the face of many military un certainties to lay plans for next semester to publish again these provisions they have primarily to do with the adjustment of schol astic credits and the adjustment of finances academic credits procedures for handling the academic credits for a student whose semester is disrupted by call tc military service fall into two categories provisions for seniors in their plans for gala social event nov 4 debater's honorary taps two new men delta omicron theta lehigh's honorary debating society last week tapped sherman g sass bus june 1945 and robert e mertz arts feb 1947 in normal times entrance into the society required the fledgling to have at least three varsity de bates under his belt but because of present conditions one varsity encounter sufficed later in the week at a meet ing held in christmas-saucon hall officers for the coming fall sem ester were elected those elected were jack tuberty arts feb 1946 president richard j macadams m.e june 1946 vice-president sherman sass secretary and wil liam p pettit bus oct 1945 treasurer 8 lehigh men named for 45 who's who in college outstanding lehigh men have once again been nominated to the famous who's who among students in american colleges and uni versities this year the eight seniors who were selected to appear in this annual publication were f william bloecher e.m 044 an thony c fortosis bus 044 paul j franz bus 044 david c kirk ch.e 044 william j day bus t45 v warren fox ch.e f'4s robert w moore i.e f'4s and fritz yon bergen ch.e 044 to be included in who's who which is really a compilation of biographies of outstanding college men in america a student musl first of all have a combination oi four principal qualities to indicate that he is a true asset to his uni versity these attributes are char acter scholarship potentialities oi future usefulness to business anc society and leadership in extra curricular activities i.e athletics society religion and student gov ernment selections are made here at le high by a secret or anonymous committee under the direction o dr beardslee who is faculty ad viser to arcadia no student ac tually knows who is on this com mittee other than those who maj possibly help make the selections when it meets or how often i meets its sole purpose is to mak impartial choice on the basis o continued on page 2 new magazine to appear the goblet a new student monthly magazine will be pub lished next semester it will ap pear first as a supplement to the brown and white in order to test certain features and also to deter mine whether or not the student body will support it if sufficient interest is aroused the goblet will appear as an entirely separ ate publication the new magazine the gob let will publish material writ ten by the men of lehigh the material used will be of interest continued on page 5 in the past lehigh has had three student magazines the burr the review and the bachelor each of these publications was popular for a time but was forced to dis continue publication because of fi nancial trouble debating season ends in close race last friday evening the final curtain was rung down on intra mural debating for this semester when team no 8 consisting of jack tuberty sherman sass and rich ard staley won a close decision over team no 6 consisting of rob ert mertz robert polstein and donald wareck the teams debating the ques tion resolved that lehigh has failed to provide its engineers with an adequate social economic and continued on page 6 the race for the debating laur els was really a hot one the final round finding two teams all tied up for first place honors even the play-off debate was really close as it ended in a tie november 4 and 5 ... prom weekend . . . gala affair . . . guys and gals galore . . . yes the first big affair of the new semester will be the arcadia ball to be given the evening of november 4 the dance probably either a semi-formal or formal affair will be sponsored by arcadia for the benefit of arcadia and will be open to all lehigh civilians and soldiers alumni are cordially invited the recently elected five-man committee on classes will be the dance committee to arrange for the or chestra whose selection will be announced in the near future ticket sales will begin the first week after classes begin again the weekend will be a real cel ebration with the last football home game of the season sched uled that afternoon with the scar let of rutgers tangling with the engineers in taylor stadium the athletic department has designated the game as prom game and spe cial arrangements will be made for dates according to latest infor mation the fraternity houses and dormitory will be open to the girls attending the dance who are re maining over the weekend on sat urday night with the usual stip ulation that their rooms be cleared by 4 on sunday afternoon chap erones for the dance will be an nounced later as will ticket prices brown and white vol «— no 14 price 5 cents we need recruits . . . let's go this being the last issue of the brown and white for the present semester the time has again come for our semesterly appeal for per sonnel it has been demonstrated again and again over the years that collegiate newspaper experience is an activity which effectivly pre pares men for post college life this is one of lehigh's oldest student controlled extra-curricular activities and only active student cooper ation will keep it going it might also be well to mention that brown and white work brings one regular credit hour per semester as well as monetary honoraria in due time we are asking living group heads to help out by recruiting reporters ad men circulation men and photographers from the ranks of their freshmen
