will be held to night dur ing an initiation dinner at the sun inn kitain plays here tonite robert kitain eminent russian violinist will be presented under the auspices of the scl series of lehigh university tonight at 8:15 p m the concert will take place in the broughal high school audi torium on packer avenue where all lehigh students and astrp men will be admitted along with their dates free of charge the admission price for the general public will be fifty cents kitain has received tremendous ovations and praise in every cor ner of the earth he graduated with highest honors from the im perial conservatory of music in st petersburg after he had won a scholarship to this institution when he was only ten years of age and when he was only 16 he made a successful concert tour of all russia and siberia this is the summer semester's first and last scl program and it is expected that student and pub lic attendance will be great so come early in order to get a good seat mr kitain's performance to night will be as brilliant as his others throughout the world each and every lehigh student should take full advantage of this oportunity to see an internation ally famous concert violinist per form according to w robert moore head of the student-con cert-lecture series committee and opportunities like this do not come to one's doorstep every day you will spend an educational and enjoyable evening if you come 5 man board elections to be tomorrow all lehigh students eligible for voting lehigh will be the scene of an election on september 28 when all students will have a chance to cast their ballots for the members of the new arcadia five man com mittee this committee replaces the class officers which governed lehigh in the past war condi tions made this change necessary the five men who now consti tute the committee will graduate at the end of this semester so five new members must be voted for nine candidates for the post are named on the ballot the voter is required to vote for only five men and to sign his name to the ballot otherwise his vote will not be counted ballots may be turned in at the arcadia office at prow!n hall any time before 4 p m on of debate after seven hotly contested weeks of intramural debating the season culminated last friday evening in a first place tie be tween team no 8 s sass j tu berty r staley and team no 6 e mertz r polstein p war eek these teams each of which garnered a total of 40 points in six debates will meet in a final debate this friday evening sep tember 29 in room 466 of pack ard lab playoff for 100 this debate which will decide the team to receive the lion's share of the 100 offered as first and second prize will be judged by prof . a rights prof r p billinger asst prof c strauch the topic will be resolved that lehigh has failed to prepare its engineers adequately for social political and economic life varsity debating ends varsity debating too wtound up its season last week*end when j tuberty arts feb 46 and r macadams m.e june 46 jour neyed to carlisle pa to debate the pickinson college team in a successful flair at the topic re solved that germany should be divided into several international ly recognized national states the pickinson men not only gave our boys a real test but they also showed our fellows a good time via a dance and dates a return debate is being plan ned for the week-end of nov 4th successful season ends all in all the season has been a rather successful one the var sity team competed in three de bates without mishap and the in tramural teams except brilliant and active career of one of lehigh's outstanding men it was on this day that robert edward laramy 96 resigned his position as associate director of ad missions for lehigh university it was the second time that mr laramy went into retirement mr laramy assumed the title of associate director of admissions on july 1 1942 mr byron c hayes who had previously held this position left lehigh to enter the u s navy mr laramy agreed not only to accept mr hayes work but also to assume most of the responsibilities of the director ' of admissions mr smiley who was occuppied with other univer sity work well fitted for job director laramy was very well fitted for his work in the admis sions office having sierved in various local public schools as a teacher principal and superin tendent he gained valuable knowl edge of high school graduates and he was able to understand to the fullest extent the problems of each individual prospective lehigh en rollee mr laramy was able to solve the parents and students problems on enrollment in lehigh robert e laramy was born in catasauqua pennsylvania in 1875 he received his secondary educa tion in bethlehem having gradu ated from bethlehem high school in 1890 he attended bethlehem preparatory school and graduated from this institution in 1892 he gross wehner chosen epitome editor manager h edward gross 1.e fefc>.-'46 and william g wehner ch.e j-'45 were named editor-in-chief and business manager of the 1945 epitome at a recent meeting of the board of publications and work has already commenced for this book at the present time the new stafl is
