vol 98 no 22 tuesday december 4 1990 lehigh university lanter said she had suggested changing the time of graduation to earlier in the morning in order to avoid the afternoon heat yet likins said this change would be impossible because there are other services being conducted in the morning recently blue cards were distribut ed to seniors via mail to get student input on the subject lanter said they are striving for 85 percent of students to vote in favor of the proposal so far more than 450 have been returned she said they will be redistributing the cards in case students lost their cards or threw them away this time however the cards will not go through the mail lanter said she wants to talk to people face-to-face and will maybe sit in rauch or the u.c for a while and talk to people stand how they must act and maintain a proper decorum we want people to know what we expect from them at graduation lant people associate goodman stadium with tailgating and the administration doesn't want people being rowdy during an academic ceremony susan lanter senior class president er said i think everyone under stands the only problems that can be encountered at the ceremony are rain and hot weather outdoor graduation for class of 91 considered by jennifer provda brown and white asst news editor the class of 1991 will graduate in goodman stadium if a senior class survey supports this recommendation of the class officers according to university president peter likins senior class president susan lanter said she is optimistic that the survey will work other class officers said they thought the class would have the best opportunity to begin a new leh igh tradition since it is lehigh's larg est class ever with 1,201 students having graduation in goodman stadium will allow students to have an unlimited number of guests rather than the four tickets distributed for indoor graduation at stabler athletic and convocation center the only stipulation of the outdoor ceremony is that there will be no indoor alternative in the event of rain likins said he did not want to have an indoor rain alternative because he does not want the responsibility of deciding whether or not uncertain weather warrants bringing the exer cises indoors she said another reason is that people who have guests coming from far away may not be able to attend if there are more than four people however lanter said likins thinks the outdoor graduation is a good idea president likins told me what eve ry other class is flirting with you're actually going out and doing she said the biggest concern of the admin massive human rights violations by the government of myanmar previously known as burma pyne and suzanne lind 93 have organized the burmese students relief fund to aid the burmese students fleeing persecution this is an opportunity to do something which will have a direct and immediate effect for the people who really need the support pyne said pyne was born in burma but her family now lives in thailand pyne will be returning to thailand over winter break and will see her family for the first time in three and a half years while in thailand she will deliver the items collected by the relief tmas vespers concert last sunday choral arts director steven sametz led the combined groups and professional soloists through diverse works from many eras of choral music the proces sional modern composer william mathias alleluya psallat an impres sive but difficult piece filled packer chapel with sound as both groups sur rounded the capacity audiences the choirs lept from the modern to the ancient with their usual ease to perform a 13th-century plainsong to the accom paniment of the renaissance krum mhorn a curved woodwind chaplain lloyd steffen reminded the audience of the poignancy of
