terry o'day ken keely's vocalist scl to present russian artist on wednesday evening sept 2 the student - concert lecture series will present a concert by robert kitain famed russian violinist in ba:oujsaal high sehiool auditorkmn before coming to this country two years ago kitain had played in every major city of europe and asia on numerous occasions he has played with the leningrad symphony orchestra and with the london philharmonic orchestra under the direction of sir thomas beecham since his arrival in this country he has given three concerts in car negie hall and rias frequently ap peared in radio city music ball he has also contributed a great deal of bis time and effort to en tertaining the service men and wo men at the stage door canteen oi the american theater wing in new york he has given concerts re cently at the yale conservatory of music cornell university and bucknell university kitain plays the type of music that appeals to the average college student his music is youthful lively and possesses magnificent feeling the student members of the committee are w robert moore chairman f william bloecher paul j franz fritz yon bergen and david c kirk the concert will begin promptly at 8:15 students will be admit ted upon presentation of their bur sars receipt and dates will be ad mitted free of charge public sub scription will be 50 cents plus tax plans for the big town-dorm dance are all completed and ori next saturday evening sept 16 the joqrs to grace hall will be thrown open for the semester's second and final outstanding so cial event dress for the occasion will be semi-formal and corsages for dates will not be necessary once again the fraternities and drinker house will be opened for guests from saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock until sunday afternoon at the same time there will be dancing from 9 until 1 o'clock to the music of ken keely and his popular 13-piece or chestra ken himself as well as leading the band will take over the crooning section for the eve ning while pretty terry o'day will be featured on the vocals that appeal to masculine tastes defin itely ken and his ensemble have had unusual success in playing at so cial gatherings all over eastern pennsylvania among others he has played at muhlenberg buck nell temple dorney park and hershey tickets are still on sale at 3.50 tax included for civilians and 1.80 members-to-be were presented with blue flowers signifying that they had been nominated for membership the three seniors bill day bus june 45 v war ren fox ch e feb 45 and bob mayer ch e june 45 will be in itiated next week the initiation will be followed by a dinner at professor larkin's home doc tor bardslee will be the speaker day's activities include pres ident of delta tau delta social fraternity president and secretary of the if council president of cy anide junior honorary society member of arcadia and senior manager of the wrestling and track teams day has won letters in track — what are lehigh's post-war plans for me the importance of this problem has been felt by the administration and the alumni these two groups have rolled up their sleeves and have broken ground on some of the answers to that question with the g i bill of rights as a nucleus they have drawn the blue the g i bill of rights dean palmer sent to the parents of undergraduates in the service of our country his letter explain ing the g i bill and other infor mation of interest to the parents the letter of dean tomlinson fort explained the educational continued on page 4 5-man council election soon elections for the next five-man committee on classes to serve dur ing next semester will be termin ated thursday sept 20 the ballots containing the names of the nominees will be in the sept 27 issue of the brown and white therefore everyone wish ing to be considered for the offices must submit an activities list and his average to mrs bowker in the arcadia office no later than fri day noon sept 22 these are the only statements of intention re quired — there will be no peti tions this semester the lehigh blood bank drive was stressed at the last meeting on the 4th of september as a final reminder it was brought out that registration is sept 20 and all waivers must be in by then the last all-university meeting was a success and it was the ex pressed wish of the council to hold four such meetings every semes ter these all-university meetings are an innovation with the war and subsequent reduced enroll ment and they are proving a great success dr beardslee announced at the last meeting that he will appoint an anonymous student committee to make selections for the next college who's who this who's who is compiled from a survey of every college and university in the united states and the members are chosen by either the students themselves or by student repre sentatives as per our case the yearly campus community chest drive will be conducted during the last two weeks of this semester and the first three weeks of next semester the drown hall house commit tee will conduct a survey on the use of drown hall after the war still on drown hall — it was decid ed to let the university faculty woman's club hold its meetings there in the future a schedule of dances for next semester will be made up so far an i-f ball and a town council inter dorm are proposed cyanide solved that germany after the war should be divided into several internationally recognized national states the discussion will be ac cording to the oregon style of de bating and lehigh's representa tives who will stump for the neg ative side of the issue will be jack tuberty arts feb 46 and rich ard j macadams m e june 46 locally the intramural debating teams are really coming down the home stretch for friday night in the lecture room of packard lab the seven competing teams will en gage in the semi-final round of their quest for the 100 williams prize in debating the battle is really getting hot as four of the teams are rushing almost neck and neck for the cov eted one and two spots of the win ledger two teams being tied for second place the team definitely to watch however is team no 5 composed of r mayer l achterman and t van winkle this combine in two short weeks has jumped from sixth to third place the topic for debate this week will be resolved that the grading system enter the conflict by civilian population we mean every man and woman in the administration faculty student body and the maintenance and clerical staffs by the words enter the conflict we don't mean we should pick up a gun and run for the nearest fox hole but that all of us should contribute our blood to the lehigh university blood drive it is no longer necessary to stress the importance of this ser vice to our fighting men what is necessary is an understanding that by shirking or forgetting we are actually harming ourselves the giving of blood is one very important yet simple way of relieving the suffering saving lives and shortening the war
