and local organizations to buy a banner to help finance the cost richards said the committee is trying to organize some events to coincide with the sept 29 lehigh columbia football game as a ceremonial founders day weekend and community-wide celebration of the anniversary the athletic department will use the 125 th anniversary theme in the design of new ban ners to be made this summer for murray h goodman stadium it is proposed that duplicates of the banners will be sold in the bookstore and 125 th anniv greeks play easter bunny by jennifer provda brown and white news writer a committee has been formed to plan a celebration of lehigh's 125 th birthday marked by the the 1990-91 academic year kathy richards a communications spec ialist at lehigh university publications said the committee is devising ways to tie the 125 th anniversary theme in with a wide and large variety of the events of the upcoming academic year there's not only one way that we want to celebrate this she said we are trying to encourage everyone to use the 125 th theme richards said the committee wants to rekindle that sense of memorabilia rather than invent new activities our goal is to call attention to all the terrific things already planned and the great 125 years lehigh has had she said arrangements have already been completed for installing 125 th anniversary banners on the fahy new street bridge for the may 9 tour de trump lehigh's birthday will therefore be included in the typically extensive trump style publicity which will undoubtedly sur round this bike race through parts of pen nsylvania anniversary banners will be displayed around campus by the lehigh alumni associa tion which is considering asking student clubs by jessica brenner brown and white news writer approximately 200 children scampered on the university center lawn sun day during the panhellenic and interfraternity councils easter egg hunt said julie johnson 91 panhel presi dent children from the beth lehem girl scouts the boys club and students at the donegan elementary school were invited to participate in the hunt children of all leh igh faculty administration and support staff were also given invitations i was thrilled with the tur nout johnson said even though it was the first time the event was held she said it was one of a few events that ran without problems the hunt will become an annual event said liz bloch 91 panhel publicity director volunteers from approx imately six fraternities and all eight sororities hid 1,200 eggs on the front lawn of the u.c said bloch woods food services boil ed the eggs and the sorority members colored them some eggs had a dot on them which signified that a candy prize was earned by the child who found it the night before the hunt johnson gathered members from each sororities to dye the eggs and make baskets so b&w staff photo gabby bridenbaugh 91 and kirsten halvorsen 91 decorate the flagpole for the big easter egg hunt on the u.c lawn the event was entirely fund ed by a monetary award pan hel received at the northeast panhellenic conference in february the idea for the hunt also resulted from this conference other sorority members who attended and helped with the event said it was very successful and they would like to do it again next year the children would be able to carry the eggs during the hunt it only took an hour to do something that would make so many children happy said chelsea ehring 90 alpha chi omega sorority member duck duck goose simon says and other similar children's games were also conducted with candy prizes for the winners the easter bunny was also on hand to entertain the children the lehigh students invol ved were having a great time too said carolyn milhiser 92 alpha gamma delta sorority member the kids were having a ball running around and play ing with the college students she said noting that there were more than enough stu dents at the hunt to help but they stayed anyway another reason the hunt was put together was to enh ance relations among the bethlehem community facul ty and students bloch said she said she was happy to see some professors and their children at the hunt vol 97 no 41 brown and white lehigh university tuesday april 10 1990 lehigh university to organize 125th anniversary celebration see anniversary page 3 inside news lehigh trustee john diebold previews his latest book page 2 arts & leisure french week to begin april 16 pageb sports lehigh baseball team wins a doubleheader against towson state page 1 6
