a 1989 federal report states that water quality in northeastern united states lakes would change very little over the next 50 years if the region's acid rain levels remains constant but a lehigh university scientist said acidification of lakes in the pocono mountains is proceeding much faster than the report estimates the federal environment protection agency last august issued a report that predicts that if sulfur emissions are not reduced lakes in the south and northeast will suffer however the report also states that if today's rainfall acidity in the northeast were to remain unchanged for the next 50 years lakes in the region would experience only a slight decrease in acid-neutralizing capacity anc for the past 10 years patricia bradt a research scientist at lehigh's environmental trying to put our panhel system up to the training for its five standing mem bers and seven alternates was held last week according to benner the five standing members are michele cabot 90 jennifer cray courtenay engleke 92 kathy gimpel 90 and jessie robertson 92 robertson said that their training consisted of two 2-hour sessions the first a meeting with associate dean of students terrence curran.who expla ined how lehigh's judicial system works and their place within it assist ant dean of students lisa hanson explained how panhel and the judi cial system will interact robertson is very enthusiastic by ted van horn brown and white news writer starting this week sororities charg ed with violations of rush or social policy have an option besides going to the administration's judicial system for punishment sentencing the panhellenic judicial board pjb is a new division of the pan hellenic council that has roughly the same power as the interfraternity council's ifc judicial board said diana benner 90 former panhel pre sident benner said the pjb was created so we could handle rush violations and other problems ourselves national panhellenic system's stan dards she said that the ifc has had greater power than panhel in the past and this is part of an attempt to change that delta zeta sister debra klinek 90 said of the pjb i think it's a good idea because it will promote unification between the eight sororities according to robertson pjb mem bers were appointed after being inter viewed by four sorority presidents hanson and greek affairs coordina tor bob robeson according to johnson the idea for the pjb was put together by hanson and brenner ifc elections held tonight at sigma phi byunda jacobs brown and white news writer interfraternity council elec tions will be held tonight at the sigma phi fraternity house to choose its officers for the 1990-91 school year the ifc the representative body elected to govern all lehigh fraternities includes the thirty house presidents and a five man executive body whose members are elected to serve for one year the elected offices are pre sident judiciary vice presi dent administrative vice pre sident treasurer and secret we must work on our funda mental weaknesses i would like to improve public rela tions increase social and intellectual awareness and increase involvement a mandatory recycling pro gram at lehigh is one project grimsrud said he will con centrate on as president moss's goals are geared tow ard developing a more posi tive image for the lehigh frat ernities i feel that our greek sys tem is
