lime in the i^ehigh valley thursday night see review page 5 add-drop fee remains up in the air by doug rogers university president deming lewis lias suspended imposition of the 10 add drop fee for this semester so that an ad hoc committee can review the entire registration process including pre registration and the add-drop method according to a memorandum from lewis to all faculty the suspension is a continuation of the last two semesters review by an advisory committee of the add-drop fee as a deterrent to unneces sary add-drops during the two semester trial period there was not a substantial increase in the number of add-drops according to austin gavin executive consultant the purpose of ihe extra semester is to get an opinion from the ad-hoc com mittee gavin said it's still up in the air as far as permanency goes university registrar james wagner said he is concerned over the add-drop situation because add-drops have been gradually increasing over the years last minute add-dropping tends to be chaotic if there's a lot he said ii causes problems as far as overcrowding and underenrollment in sections the university policy is to try and satisfy everybody wagner said in a lot of other schools students often get turned down we want to keep the system that students can get any course they want wagner said there is some kind of push towards closed registration and that he is against that but he added you should have lo pay the institution something for that change a lot of add-drops can cause prob lems with the departments loo wagner explained if a student wantsto gel into a lab which is overcrowded we'll get him in even if we have lo take some body else out then we sometimes have the department come back to us on campus transportation set for subcommittee study by martha mahoney an in-depth study of the university's current and future busing needs was authorized by the transportation sub committee at its meeting thursday according to subcommittee member john dorf 81 the study will be per formed in conjunction with the transpor tation services department and will be completed in november with positive recommendations dorf said he thinks the study will find there is a need for another bus but there are no definitive facts or figures as of yet the buses are usually overcrowded according to linda brett 81 adminis trative committee chairperson espe cially during the peak hours of 8 a.m noon and 4 p.m the busing system was originally designed to transport smacis residents to and from main campus however with many of the university's sports facilities now located in saucpn valley sports events have placed an additional burden on the busing system dorf said fraternity men who would rather ride than hike up the hill have increased the strain brett added there is a bus riding priority list dorf said smags residents and varsity ath letes are at the top and others mustgive up their space to accomodate these rid ers first dorf added that the university buses have reached the maximum capacity during all hours as far as he can tell until the feasibility study is com pleted the only solutions to the busing problem seem to be to run more vans to arrange car pooling on a large scale or just to live with the situation as it stands dorf said right now the university budget is being finalized and chances are that funds for a new bus will not be included because of the great expense he added fly away we can fly now yes lead vocalist trevor horn tells drummer alan while appeal by delts is successful case
