summer semester edition is scheduled for wednesday june 30 when the brown and white goes on a weekly - publication basis distribution will probably re main at 1 o'clock as at pres ent information concerning the method of distribution for the summer-session b&w will be made later dr dodds . . . . . . commencement speaker congdon warns against dishonesty on finals the committee on disci pline wishes me to bring to the attention of all students at this time the following university regulation 109 the penalty for clearly premeditated dis honesty in a final exam ination is a recommenda tion for expulsion from the university for dishonesty in an hour quiz or other exercise of similar value suspension for one semes ter for dishonesty in a daily class exercise drop ping from the course with loss of credit in view of the importance of academic records for men going into the armed services these days it is doubly impor tant that even the appearance of cheating in academic work as well as any other dishonest practice be studiously avoided wray h congdon chairman committee on discipline only taylor will be open to civilians epitome due next month students who expect to occupy dormitory space for only part of the semester may arrange leases on a weekly basis at rates pre viously established for the sum mer sessions students who elect this option will indicate at regis tration the number of weeks they wish to occupy the dormitory the first lease is to cover not less than five weeks at the end of the in dicated period such students may renew the lease at a weekly rate with the understanding that a re newal for a period of less than four weeks may be made only once during the semester students who elect this weekly lease will he under no obligation to renew the lease at the often recognized dodds as an authority on elections by calling up him to act as arbiter in various plebiscites in 1922 he was chosen by the president of nicar agua to serve as adviser in elec tions to that government three years later he served as technical adviser to the tacna-arica pleb iscitary commission of which general john j pershing was chairman because of these and other activities of a similar na ture he was termed in 1928 the best-known north american in south america probably his most spectacular achievement as an election arbiter came in de cember 1935 when he settled a cuban for distribution at the end of june or the begin ning of july according to a recent statement of editor robert w pugh chem 43 subscribers who are still in school at the time of release can get their copy by presenting their receipt at the arcadia office in drown hall there will be some extra copies pugh said but sub scribers will get first call epitomes that are not claimed within one week of the announce ment of their arrival which will be made by posters and by the brown and white will be mailed to subscribers at the address ap pearing on their receipts dut to the quantity of bookeeping that johnson president of inter-dormitory council that price richards and drinker dor mitories will be closed to civilian students for the entire summer however taylor hall will be open for both the four weeks session and the regular summer semester all men living in price rich ards and drinker dormitories must remove all of their belong ings from their rooms before noon on may 24 the day on which their leases expire because many adap tions such as the installation of double decker beds in many of the rooms will start as soon as the present residents have removed their belongings any dorm men having hopes of coming back to school for either the four weeks session or the sum mer semester should bring their property to taylor hall before the end of the present semester this property must be properly packed and labeled there is a slight pos sibility that the university may open part of one of the other dorms if there is an overflow of students in taylor dorm before the army students arrive 36th bach festival will start here friday event still commands nationwide attention about 100 new frosh expected between 100 and 150 freshmen students will enter lehigh for the summer semester according to e kenneth smiley director of ad missions the number of fresh men entering most of whom will be engineering students may pos sibly be reduced when the v-12 men are called up a conservative estimate the dean continued would seem to put the probably number of civ ilian students here during the summer at approximately 450 there are 340 students mostly deferred men who are potential enrollees for the summer semes ter only 16 are 4-f's by john morrison a famous organist a noted pianist 40 members of the philadelphia orchestra and a choir of over 600 voices will perform this week-end in the thirty sixth annual festival of the bethlehem bach choir thousands of people from all over the country have come to see the festivals and newspapers throughout the nation have complimented the excellence of the choir's work to the highest degree and interest in the festival which in spite of the war has not declined the festival begins friday afternoon at four at the university chapel with a series of cantatas and organ works at 8:30 friday night the choir will sing three more choral numbers and the orchestra wil perform the well known brandenburg concerto no 1 the main feature of this year's festival as well as those of past pears will be the presentation at two o'clock saturday in the chapel of the bach b minor mass the choir was the first group to per form the great b minor mass in its entirety in america and its performance has been praised by life magazine as the * most fa mous in the united states saturday morning there will be a recital by the noted pianist james friskin in the moravian seminary chapel at 10 and by the popular organist of the boston symphony e powers biggs in the central moravian church at 11 organist for the choir will be dr t edgar shields lehigh di rector of music who will also give a lecture on bach saturday at noon in the university library the choir which stems back to 1741 when the first moravians came to perm's
