" flections for forum xiii officers will be conducted wednesday in the uc yes social survey indicates need for alternative programming by diana wali students are generally dissatisfied with the social life at the university according to a survey taken by the social and cultural alternatives committee ninety-one percent of the students sur veyed said there is a need for social and cultural alternatives at the university according to a report by the committee at last monday's final forum xii meet ing upperclassmen indicated thc strongest desire for alternatives and of the 77 percent who said there was not enough variety in social and cultural alternatives upperclassmen again were the most dissatisfied the spring carnival rock concerts and comedians were the students favorite activities while faculty members favored the international festival dance troupes and jazz concerts opera was fourth on the faculty list but last on the student list sixty six of those surveyed said they would attend six-week non credit courses if they were offered wilh upper classmen the most enthusiastic and faculty members the least enthusiastic the survey revealed freshmen as the most frequent users of the facilities at the field house and the swimming pools and faculty members as the least likely to attend events at stabler arena also at the meeting final reports were heard from thc education policy cam pus life academic environment and administration committees and the forum adopted the calendar forthe 198 84 and 1984-85 academic years springfield concert floor seats sold over break by kathy goldstein students didn't get the good seats that they usually get " for the rick springfield concert according to lon lewis sac concert chairman who said tickets were put on sale without the sac's knowledge during the week of march 15 when students were on break according to richard fritz director ol events at stabler arena it is not possible for stabler to close up operations and business while students are on vacation fritz said that on feb 2 the promoters asked that four dates be held as potential concert dates they were mar 16 18 25 and maj 22 during the faster vacation the promoter chose mar 25 he said and thc tickets had to go on sale we are dealing with a participation equation between promoters students and the facility he explained rock concerts comc about quickly he added and since the arena does not put out money but instead leases the facility we are not in as much control " we held the best seats that wc possi hly could but it must be admitted that the floor seats were probably gone ' fritz explained although sales began prior to the students return tn campus tickets were not denied to any student who wished to purchase them he con tinued the arena and the university set aside and reserved approximately 1,000 tickets lor students to he sold after break but a high demand before stu dents return forced some ol these to be offered for the university as a whole lo real ize thc success of a concert requires ( nc per ition with promoters fritz con tinued this cooperation includes having tickets on sale weeks before the concert is to lake place he said normally concert tickets are put on sale a day in advance to university stu dents allowing them first chance at the better seats according to lewis sinct stabler did not contact lewis overbreak he was not aw ire until after he returned that the tickets had been put on sale i had been working on getting rick springfield with one promoter electric factory , but another promoter tom makoul got it instead he said fritz emphasized that the students are kept in mind for tickets for every con cert every effort is made on every con cert for tickets to be available to students a day in advance but we could not do that in this particular situation he said he also mentioned that an explanation was offered to lewis dan butler sac president und roger watkins assistant dean of students and was accepted by them according to fritz stabler along with the sac has put on a record number of concerts this year 11 in nine months students share in the revenues of these concerts up to a point of 5,000 for the school year he said adding this amount has already been obtained by sac we have never had as much cooperation as we have had with lon lewis dan butler and this year's sac he concluded see voter page 3 see competing page 8 inside national cancer week special report
