alumni day traditional home coming date for the old grads will not be held until the first june following the cessation of hostili ties at that time a huge celebra tion embracing all classes will en deavor to make up for the years missed herrick said alumni day originally planned for june 5 and overwhelmed by a deluge of difficulties will not be held this year nor in any year before the war's end it was learn ed yesterday from robert f her rick 34 secretary of the alumni association the veterans of foreign wars will present a cup to the basic student having the highest aggre gate rifle scores in the kneeling and standing positions after the machine gun and bay onet drills the entire regiment will form for review and parade at this time several university lead ership awards and six medals from the society of sons of the ameri can revolution will be awarded to outstanding cadet officers and men in addition two sabers will be awarded to deserving scabbard and blade members first year advanced course in fantry students will then demon strate putting a machine gun into action followed by a demonstra tion of bayonet training both the machine gun drill and the bayonet training demonstration will be given for the first time this year to demonstrate bayonets following the platoon drill com petition companies b c and d will participate in a company drill competition to decide the best drilled company of the regiment after the competitions company a will present a short exhibition of the movements in close order drill following this special drill five companies will join in a mass calisthenics demonstration to pre sent a phase of the army method of physical training the first contest will be the manual of arms competition be tween freshman representatives of each company this will be fol lowed by the sophomore competi tions ane platoon from each com pany will then participate in a platoon drill competition to decide the best drilled platoon of the reg iment each platoon will execute the same prescribed movements the ceremonies will start with the formation of the entire regi ment before colonel ernest c goding who was appointed gov ernment inspector by the general of the third corps area judges for the drill competition will be cap tain e s jrzywicki and lt f d justin the sixteenth annual field day competitions and military review of the lehigh rotc unit will be gin at 1:30 p m monday april 26 at taylor field all students in basic and advanced rotc and band members will be excused from afternoon classes that day to participate in the military show machine gun bayonet drill to be featured 700 to march in review of r o t c arcadia-sponsored election for a five man committee to replace the usual class officer elections has been moved up to tuesday april 27 when a primary ballot of a two ballot vote will be cast by juniors sophomores and freshmen it was revealed yesterday by kenneth g swayne in charge of elections a slate of thirty-five men from the classes of 1944 and 1945 has been named to the ballot by an arcadia nominating committee and by petition a primary election will be held tuesday to determine the fifteen highest candidates from whom the final five will be select ed in a secondary ballot the fol lowing friday april 30 new elections technique in order to insure a repre sentative vote arcadia has placed the responsibility for voting squarely in the hands of living group heads ballots and complete election infor mation will appear in the tuesday issue of the brown and white and for dormi tory and fraternity groups ballots will be cast during meetings to be held that night heads of these groups will collect the ballots and return them to the arcadia office be fore noon wednesday in the cases of town and com muting students however bal lots will be secured from issues of the paper obtained tuesday and voting will occur in the ar cadia office until 5 p m pictures of candidates will ap pear with the ballot on tuesday along with information concern ing activities and academic stand ing of each man ballots will be signed by voters in order to in sure against stuffing of the ballot box men shin advertising manager bach choir to present 36th festival in packer chapel for the 36th time since 1908 lehigh university will play host to the bach choir of bethlehem when the choral group presents its musical festival in packer memorial chapel friday and saturday may 14-15 this year's conductor will be ifor jones in charge of the choir since 1933 the musical extravaganza will include forty members of the philadelphia orchestra a chorus of 200 voices and several out standing soloists friday's program includes an afternoon and evening perfor mance followed on saturday by a twin-afternoon musical ses sion the 1943 bach festival budget is 16,500 of which approximately 13,000 will come from seat-sales wcba airs m & c songs tonight mustard and cheese will present for the first time in its long history a preview via radio of a m & c production the program will be heard over sta tion wcba in allentown 1470 on your dial between 9:30 and 10 p.m the script written by jack kennedy e e 44x consists of dialogue and songs which give the general continuity of the play bottoms up tickets for the general public will go on sale monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will continue throughout the week during the afternoon student tickets will be issued from wednesday 2 p m till saturday morning the prices are as follows reserved seats 85 cents downstairs on the wings 65 cents balcony 55 cents each student is entitled to one 65 cent ticket which he must secure before the night of the show no student tickets will be issued at the door if a student wishes a reserved seat in off-campus groups to make suggestions and evaluate proposals for continuance of fra ternities during the war emer gency this was among many subjects discussed at a meeting wednesday night in the faculty room of the alumni building which was at tended by 60 student house pres idents and local alumni twenty five houses were represented fraternities to divide the decision to subdivide fur ther work into on and off campus groups was made at the meeting due to the difference in the na ture of the problems facing the groups fraternities on campus and delta sigma phi and the cos mopolitan club are owned by the university while most off-campus houses are owned by their respec tive alumni associations these alumni committees would consist of an alumnus from each house with a smaller executive council for greater flexibility be fore anything definite is being done a questionnaire is being sent to each house to determine its fi nancial and physical status smiley leads discussion e kenneth smiley director of admissions who addressed the meeting said that there had been rather repeated assurance from army men that lehigh will get some advanced engineering army trainees this spring probably by july 1 the number is thought to be about 400 also from the talks with army men it is learned that enough basic trainees will prob ably be sent here eventually to bring lehigh's total up to
