nineteen engineers were pledged to tau beta pi national engineer ing honorary yesterday as the result of an election meeting wednes day night this number was made up of seven men from the class of 43 seven from 44x and five from the class of 44 pledging took place at 1 p m yesterday at the memorial stone to dr edward h williams former lehigh professor of geology and founder of the society in front of williams hall college men under 25 are wanted for sea duty college and university students are being sought by the u s mar itime service for a variety of types of positions students under 25 are wanted for training in a new branch of the merchant marine the hos pital corps candidates would un dergo seven months training with pay and eventually ship out with the victory fleet as pharmacists mates applications for these services can be made through the u s maritime service 330 land title building philadelphia formal initiation will be held in about two weeks the election meeting wednesday followed a smoker in drown hall to which eligible men were invited j lyn ford beaver acting head of the department of electrical engineer ing spoke on the history and aims of the society regular enrollment is down to two-thirds of its usual size this gala weekend will probab ly be the last of its kind for the duration since the expected cut in enrollment will leave about 350 civilian students registered for that reason if for no other this weekend should be a whip dates have been pouring in since this morning and more are expected tomorrow as a matter of fact it is rumored that r omar quadowitz arts 46 has had his date in a bottle in his desk drawer since interfraternity ball some of the women undoubtedly were here yesterday because a lehigh houseparty is something to reckon with and the sooner you get here the better wendell plays friday for those who get here early the baseball team is at home this afternoon at four and will play host to muhlenberg berg has been beaten earlier in the year by a 3-2 score and the game should be a good one this evening is the night of house dances the usual proce dure has been reversed and junior prom is being held tomorrow in stead the majority of the fra ternities will select their favorite bands via victrola and several have small bands engaged to play at the house while a few are plan ning barn dances two living groups have decided to forego the pleasure of houseparty for this last time namely theta kappa phi and kappa alpha the interdormitory council will hold its annual dance on friday night in grace hall art wendell and his orchestra will be the big attraction art has appeared at lehigh on several occasions and has been a big success the town council is assisting in ar rangements for the affair and ad mission will be 50 cents per couple everyone is invited to at tend — dorm town and fraternity men included tomorrow is a long long day if the usual routine is followed joe's and the chor will not be neglected marines v-l reservists who will have been in college four regular 16 week semesters by july 1 1943 and freshman and sophomore ma rine reservists will be required to take navy qualifying tests to be given in packard auditorium on tuesday april 20 the results of these tests will determine to a large extent the status of navy and marine corps reservists following their activa tion on or about july 1 that is whether they will be sent to cer tain selected colleges for special ized training or whether they will be ordered into service as an ap prentice seaman or private re spectively men in these categories who are taking pre-medical or pre-dental courses are not required to take the test but are advised by the navy to do so since 1 failure in the test will not disqualify them from continuing their courses and 2 if for any reason these students should not continue in professional courses the re sults of the test will be used to continue them in another college and permit them to qualify for an ensign's commission marine reserves will be required to take only the first part of the morning test and the first part of he afernoon test however if they should decide to take the en tire examination scores made in the optional sections will not be held against them and may be used in assigning them to special types of service members of the v-l program who pass the test and are assigned to the chaplain medical or dental services will be allowed to con tinue college until the completion of 12 full semesters those classi fied as engineering specialists un til they have finished eight sem esters all others will be continued as follows those with six or seven semesters of college will be al lowed one additional semester at continued on page 2 cyanide votes point lehigh men who are in the armed forces the numbers 23 honors those who have been killed serving their country the flag which is of coarse cloth the only material obtainable at the present time will be re placed at the end of the war by a permanent one of silk or rayon to match the world war i service flag flag honors 1531 alumni in service 19 high ranking engineers are pledged by tau beta pi brown and white must submit election petitions petitions for nomination for election to the five-man arcadia committee which is replacing class officers for the duration must be handed in to mrs bowker by 5 p m wednesday any student who will not graduate in may and who will have completed his fourth semester by that time is eligible including advanced rotc and other reservists according to kenneth g
