withdraw from his position as chairman of the university's discipline committee in order to instill it with some new blood quay who has been chairman since 1973 said friday that he has recom mended he be replaced because six years is a good enough stint quay named his possible successor to be robert coehn assistant dean of students cohen is currently a case officer for the committee it's a good idea to rotate quay said adding that if a change did take place this year it would not come until committee members who are mostly new become familiar with committee procedures quay also noted that a new case officer would have to be found to replace cohen if he became the chairman according to quay the committee should be ready to hear two cases held over from last year within a few weeks quay said that he has remained chairman for six years in order to provide continuity among committee members but quickly added that a new chairman could provide continuity also although he would no longer be officially attached to the committee quay said he would serve as substitute for the regular chairman if he were unable to preside over a hearing the committee is composed of two undergraduate and graduate students elected by the forum two faculty members elected by the faculty and an administration representative appointed by the university president who serves as chairman four committee members hear each case in addition to the chairman un dergraduate members hear cases in volving undergraduates and graduate student members hear cases involving graduate students case officers are chosen from the staff of the dean of students and though not of ficial members of the committee are responsible for gathering information relevant to a case and presenting it to the committee the committee hears about 60 cases per year many of which are very time consuming according to quay the committee usually hears about an equal number of cases dealing with academic and social violations chair made especially for the pope from a tree on chestnut hill the knights of columbus surrounded the altar crowd of two million the mass was later than the scheduled time because of a delay in new york the delay caused greater anticipation for the crowd of almost two million many people brought radios television sets and picnic lunches to make the wait easier on what was a perfect day for an outdoor event with sunshine and mild temperatures priests and nuns dressed in black white or dark blue could be seen everywhere in the crowd for many of them it was one of the most exciting moments in their lives they talked of admiration for the 59-year old polish pope and many of them wished they could be one of the 150 bishops sitting on the altar who would later receive communion from the holy father some talked about the last time the pope came to philadelphia 14 years ago counterfeit tickets there were not enought seats for people with gold tickets reserved seats closest to the altar because of the distribution of counterfeit tickets many gold ticket holders had to sit in the next best section some of the older men could be heard complaining that there should be no need for the policemen mat could be seen everywhere they reasoned if the holy father is threatened that much the world is in bad shape during the wait for the papal mass people followed the progress of the pope in new york on ther radios and televisions when it was announced at 3 p.m that the pontiff had arrived in philadelphia the freshmen happy with campus life according to poll according to a recent brown and white telephone poll university freshmen are basically satisfied with the food services living conditions and social life on campus broken down by college 56 percent of those surveyed are in the college of engineering and physical sciences 84 percent are in the college of arts and science and nine percent are in the college of business economics fifty-one percent of the 224 freshmen surveyed said they were pleased with the food services of the 49 percent who are not pleased with the uc table fare only 37 percent have ordered out for food ninety nine percent of the 224 respon dents said they attend dinner and 85 percent regularly eat lunch on the meal plan the newcomers to south mountain are also pleased with their room conditions almost 84 percent expressed their satisfaction with
