change in what i call primarily the senior level positions sources have said that pigeonholing or lack of upward mobility has caused professional frustrations for members within the office there is not an understanding of pro fessional development what it entails and how to do it trying new jobs new skills skills you haven't used in 10 years it is the only intelligent way to use people to pigeonhole them is demoralizing good people won't stand for it they'll go elsewhere one source said another source agreed saying staff are not groomed to move up as positions open up there is a desire to fill them with the general pool of available applicants in the nation instead of providing any sense of upward mobility or new challenge within the staff asked if he sensed any frustration among ms upward mobility but cited the example of reeves who started in the admissions office and worked his way to an associate dean post besides lack of upward mobility lack of defined policy goals has been cited among sources as another factor in what some call a morale problem there is no goal-setting i'm not aware of any goal-setting that takes place on the student affairs level i don't think i learned all that i can learn from lehigh i've con tributed all that i guess i can contribute and i may seriously consider other job opportunities in the near future unless he were going to go after another job here harris said there would be no reason for him to stay beyond tins year . harris did not say he was considering leaving because of any dissatisfaction with the university however be did say there was some frustration on his part concerning the lack of opportunities for advancement at the university in a wide-ranging interview harris said the amount of student activity money should be increased we have been screaming and yelling for more financial support for activities he noted asked if be felt there was too much emphasis on running a tight ship financially in student affairs at the ex pense of students harris said i think that's a fairly common allegation one that everybody makes that's an allegation that has been made about a certain individual a certain individual who supposedly doesn't push for his subordinates it's a sort of common allegation that there isn't as much support in the driver's seat as there should be asked if he concurred with that allegation harris replied i guess you can say that yes that i agree with that statement especially due to the fact that i feel that i don't have enough money to support student organizations harris then went on to say that such a problem is a part of student personnel services no matter what school but this doesn't justify it he added that wherever belt-tightening is needed it often takes place first in student services preston parr vice president for student affairs said that in evaluating requests for sac schedules starship concert by ed white the student activities council sac will present jefferson
