five man committee composed of seniors or by petition as has been the case in the past years elec tions will not be held in drown hall but ballots will be distributed to the individual living groups the voting will take place within the living groups and the presi dents will be responsible for see ing that the ballots are returned to aradia more money given to lafayette after a discussion with lafay ette it was decided by arcadia that more money should be sent to easton to cover student dam ages during the last football game an additional 32.50 is being sent to lafayette which makes the to tal sent thus far 72.76 however a claim for 25 for a class flag from lafayette was rejected by arcadia since they did not feel that this was student damage it was felt that this was a problem for the athletic department norlin will collect books charles m norlin met e 43 has been appointed chairman of a victory book campaign which will be conducted by arcadia in the near future norlin plans to visit all the living groups and collect old books magazines and rec ords that they are willing to turn over to him these articles will be presented to the u s o the annual arcadia gift of 25 has been presented to the junior welfare league this money will be used to buy books for the st luke's hospital library continuance of arcadia is question dr claude g beardslee has been given the power to advanced military course and was in a reserve status as an officer when he was called to ac tive duty at lehigh the captain is the second officer of the military department to be given orders to wray h congdon south american art exhibit opens on display at the lehigh art gallery is a collection of prints and crafts from latin america the exhibit open each afternoon from 2 till 5 except mondays and sat urdays until april 25 consists of handiwork items ranging from ear rings and silver work to som breroes and pottery obtained from mexico guatemala peru ecuador chile argentine and puerto rico also included in the exhibit is a collection of 25 prints by artists of latin-america according to prof garth howland head of the fine arts department the exhibit provides an excellent silent worship eri tv from the masked ball by verdi and a 17th century english ballad the jolly tinker perhaps the most popular numbers he sang came in his encores however such famil iar favorites as annie laurie waltzing matilda and the aria from the marriage of figaro by mozart brought eager applause from the audience brownlee's magnetic personality captivated every person in the auditorium his own personalized introductions to each selection en livened the proceedings greatly his rendition of old mother hubbard as frederic handel might have written it amused those present greatly brownlee scores success at scl 43 s to hold class dance the class of 1943 class day dance will be held saturday eve ning may 22 in the main din ing room of the hotel bethlehem it was announced yesterday by chairman samuel j davy e e 43 admission will be free to class members who will receive two invitations each a local band will be signed within the week if pos sible chaperones have not yet been who were called into the service this year would be awarded diplomas upon the com pletion of their basic army train ing the seven seniors who will receive diplomas are charles b christman bus joseph g congdon thirty-two took the test for the navy and the remainder took it for the army those who are ac cepted by the navy will be per mitted to have physicals and in terviews and if accepted will be sent to college for special train ing students who meet the ar my's requirements will have a record of their grades go on file these records will be taken into consideration in deciding what will be done with them when and if they volunteer or are called to service one high school graduate and a student from haverford prep took the test along with the lehigh students dean congdon says there was no reason why all shouldn't make at least a passing average in spite of the fact that arts and business students found the physics and mathematics ques tions a little tough plaque will commemorate first college hydraulics lab a brass plaque in honor of prof mansfield merriman is to be in stalled on the site of the hydraulics laboratory which he built and which was the first in the country to be constructed under the aus pices of a college according to andrew w litzenberger superinten dent of buildings and grounds merriman was professor of civil and mechanical engineering at le high from 1878 to 1881 professor of civil engineering from 1881 to 1907 and faculty secretary from 1882 to 1884 he died in 1925 the laboratory which he built in 1887 was located behind wil liams hall just east of the green house the plaque will bear a fac simile of the building in 1897 the laboratory was taken down and since then experiments ) in hydraulics have been oenducted t in fritz lab dr arthur t ippen
