the drafting committee will determine whether or not changes suggested m the forum structure and purpose report or bell report as it is called are needed the bell report named after raymond bell chairman of the forum structure and purpose committee m effect called for separate student and faculty forums it was an offshoot of the idea of a dual system of governance ac cording to rubin the committee members said they have to decide what they perceive as the university goals and what needs to be done m terms of government to further those goals they have not yet completed a meeting schedule the dual system of governance which the bell report advocates will result m a loss of communication between students and faculty said phyllis errico 81 also a member of the committee robert barnes professor of philosophy and a committee member said he felt the bell report overlooked a large amaa ai issues which concern both students and faculty the question of university governance is one of those issues that has got to be dealt with by both parties he said at this time it does not appear that any major changes m the forum structure will come about at least not right away committee members said i don't think that anyone would deny that introspection and change is a good thing caryn gorbunoff 80 vice chairman of the forum said but any drastic changes would destroy a very important part of the university com munity overall some major changes could come about barnes said but added we're not going to make changes just for the sake of making changes the drafting committee will probably propose several short-term revisions according to chaplain hugh flesher also a member of the committee and a former forum chairman two of the things likely to be discussed are the size of the forum and the length of terms of its officers he said there's a lot of people hanging around who are not doing their share said rubin anotner problem the drafting com mittee will discuss is the identity crisis facing the forum he added rubin said students do not hear about the day to day business of the forum noting that the forum is involved m the lottery and noariamic planning among other things roses are red .. . b^^^bbwpwbpbh__wwwww»«----wwi-ww-ji^-___-m.mwmww»m-wm 11 m . w h i imi i fr -..-■■■b&w photo by shari komarov finding just the right words for a valentine wish can be tough but cards make it easier finding just the jtjgljt card is another problem barry okun 8.1 tackles the task m the bookstore business faculty copes with trends by trevor bond shortages of qualified faculty and facilities are major concerns of the college of business and economics but despite these difficulties the college is managing to cope very well according to richard barsness dean of the college the faculty shortage is not a new problem he said there was an explosion m the demand for accountants and businessmen during the 70s the supply of teachers did not increase proportionately with the number of students one of the problems he said is that many of the talented people go professional it's ph.ds versus careers the people who do go into teaching don't do it for the money the shortage is not just a university problem but a national phenomenon according to a study by the former department of health education and welfare barsness said the shortage was not evenly distributed among all business related fields noting that the most severely hit is the accounting department carl moore chairman of the accounting department said that since accounting is a professional discipline with greater financial opportunities many do not consider academics an alternative i have had a good many students who would have made excellent teachers but didn't go jn that direction moore said to attract candidates barsness said he has at his disposal a fully competitive salary and benefits but that each teacher has his own individual preferences as to where he would like to settle down -
