nearly 700 couples expected at i-f ball housing body is dissolved the student housing committee which was formed in october of 1941 has had its resignation ac cepted by president clement c williams the committee was a completely joint committee formed of six faculty and administrative mebemrs and six members of the student body first started in september of 1941 the committee was formed to handle the cases of students who found themselves either without a place to live or with an extra dormitory room on their hands this usually occurred right after the silence period following the annual fraternity rushing the committee became a sort of clearing house for men who had rooms to rent and men who were looking for them in the first year only a few students were helped out but this past year the entire dormitory files of the bursar were moved to the arcadia office on the last saturday afternoon of rush ing to help men relocate them selves the committee has decided that present amergency problems are completely administrative in na ture and do not allow time for committee deliberation whether or not the committee will renew its activities after the war is not certain but for the present it has given up its activities informality gas ban will be no check on fun gals to invade campus at 12 noon about 650 or 700 couples are expected to converge upon grace hall tomorrow evening to dance at lehigh's annual inter fraternity ball by wednesday night 573 tickets had been sold and sales at the door were expected to increase that figure con siderably the ball will start at 1 0 p m his orchestra first throw their sv appoints 4 men to post war group following the example of many other eastern colleges lehigh took its first measures to meet post , war economic problems last week f when pres c c williams appoint < ed four faculty members to study the effects of the expected post war conditions on the university , dr neil carothers dean of the ( college of business administra c tion heads the group which is ( made up of dr frederick a brad ford head of the department of finance dr roy b corwin head of the department of accounting ' and dr herbert m diamond head j of the department of economics and sociology president williams presented a the committee with the following five problems which he believes - c vitally concern the future of le r high ( 1 what effect will an inter j national debt of about 300,000 i 000,000 have on endowment earn i ings and on sources of additional a income 1 2 what effect will continued 1 high income taxes have on endow 1 ment and other gifts 3 what effect will post-war i mid-bracket incomes have on at c tendance at tuition supported col 1 leges i 4 to what degree will the in i post-war economic adjustments af i feet college operating expenses ( 5 when the decreased na 1 tional income ceases to yield suf i ficient national revenues through income taxes thereby forcing a shift to a sales tax or some other i system what will be the probable c effect on tuition suported colleges \ while the committee will con 1 cern itself chiefly with the prob 1 lems expected to confront lehigh a it is expected that they will reach \ some conclusions applicable to the 1 situation which all tuition support 1 ed institutions will face after the war c o i m e.s to hear yarnell dr d robert yarnell of phila { delphia will speak to senior m.e.s 1 on march 16 at 2:15 in room 466 i packard lab faculty members and < all students are invited to attend c his talk when johnny warrington and yeet notes over a transformed urace hall warrington will play antil 2 sunday morning on the lower floor bobby sher ivood will start his guitar at 10:30 and he will continue until 2:30 phis late closing hour is due to the tardy start that the band will et because of the wrestling meet which takes place on the same floor and which is expected to be aver by 10:15 intermission by the iwo bands will be staggered weekend starts at noon the half-weekend of interfra ternity ball which is considered 3ne of the most important week ends of the year will start offi cially at 12 noon on saturday march 6 at that time girls may nove into the living quarters pre viously occupied by their dates and take over until sunday after noon at 4 p m comes the maen lerchor tea dance which is always ane of the most successful and popular affairs of any lehigh weekend back to the house for dinner and then over to see princeton neet lehigh jayvees and varsity an the mats from 7 until 10 the fjrapplers are undefeated this year and the tigers have an exception ally good team which should pro vide almost three hours of nip and tuck wrestling lehigh's jayvees nave never been defeated and aim to maintain that enviable record tickets will be collected on the jpper floor at 10 o'clock so that lancing can start immediately af ter the wrestling is over guests are asked to leave the lower floor as soon as the wrestling is over oecause the hall will have to be cleared before arrangements can oe made to set up sherwood's out fit romantic lighting featured the upper floor is being decor ated with the flags and pennants df the lehigh fraternities there will be spot lights throughout on the lower floor there is to be no light at all the only light that will be seen on the lower floor will be from dark blue floods and from fancy colored spot lights on the band the music should be excellent all evening there will never be a pause since one band will be play ing at all times both bands are rather new in the eastern colle giate tau delta arcadia gives 147.00 to red cross dean congdon left here on mon day to attend a reecption given on the plaza in front of city hall in new york about 4,000 people were present as mayor laguardia handed madame chiang a scroll which made her an honorary citiz en of new york city the dean re turned home last wednesday wray h congdon dean of un dergraduates was asked to be a member of the citizen's welcoming committee this past week by mayor f th laguardia of new york city the purpose of this committee was to extend a wel come to madame chiang kai-shek during her four day visit to the city congdon welcomes madame chiang total campus chest is highest to date arcadia has given 147 to the red cross as part of the donations which came out of this year's campus community chest the donation represents a gift on the part of the students which was the first figure recorded in the cam pus red cross drive arcadia collected 383.18 this year arcadia collected a total of 383.18 in the campus community chest this figure is larger than any previous one add ed to this sum was 46.17 which arcadia had saved in a special fund to add to this year's com munity chest it was felt last year that the money might be needed more this year and therefore this sum was put aside from last year's collec tions a total of 7.35 remains in the special fund this donation enabled the 1943 contribution to top all previous records the donation to the red cross represents 35 per cent of the total donations made by the students through arcadia in addition 85 was given to both the christmas seal drive and the city commun ity chest the war chest received 105 it is interesting to note that stu dents actually give twice since their families give an additional amount to the red cross at home any student may call at the ar cadia office and receive a red cross tag each student is entitled to this tage or seal since each student through arcadia and the campus community chest has given money to the red cross this year students should have a particular interest in red cross because it may not be long before the donors will be on the receiv ing end through the armed forces any students who
