scagnelli 75 vice-chairman of the forum there has been a great deal of data collected that is being reevaluated in order to resolve anything worthwhile it takes time scagnelli said zettlemoyer concerned with education problems by peter menard university provost albert c zet tlemoyer speaking monday before the faculty of the college of arts and sciences gave his views on the major concerns of scholars in a time of crisis in recent days institution of higher education have been forced more and more to confront the changing interest of students zettlemoyer said adding it is evident that quality education is difficult to maintain if the institution is constantly forced to re-assess and re-design the education mission to meet these changing interests current literature tells us that we are moving away from the early days when society followed the universities to the present when it appears that universities are continually changing to keep up with society he said also presented at the meeting were demographic data which showed the pool of students from which the university traditionally draws they showed an in crease from the present 3.2 million to 3.6 million in 1979 and then a decrease to 2.5 million by 1985 this along with rising tuition costs and increased alternatives in post-secondary education will cause the problem to descend upon us long before 1980 said zettlemoyer asked if all this might lead to a decrease in faculty zettlemoyer replied i hope not but i wouldn't be surprised the idea of getting through the hard financial times ahead by using the university's reserve was dismissed by zettlemoyer he said the reserve here is ridiculously small adding there is nothing out there no mystery pot " william rankin see treasurer page 7
