dr bergmann came to this coun try in 1936 for the past six years he has been an assistant to prof albert einstein at the institute for advanced study princeton uni versity taught at princeton during this time he has also had some teaching experience since 1941 he has been an assistant pro fessor at black mountain college north carolina teaching general physics and advanced calculus at princeton he has taught a graduate course on five dimensional field theories during his time in the united states dr bergmann has written numerous scientific papers he has also written a book introduction to the theory of relativity with foreward by albert einstein he is a member of the american phy sical society and the american mathematical society dr cheney received his bach elor's degree at dartmouth college in 1920 and his doctor's degree in 1926 at princeton university while at college he was a member of sigma xi and won the highest de partmental honors magrazine article writer for five years dr lead-characters are robert pollock bus 43 as john homer june collins as his wife pansy donald layton ch e 43 as nick dominick and kathryn wolbach as hattie homer others in the cast are charles miller arts and william reppert chem both 43 as jim quirk and sam bowen robert kelly c e 45 as percy georginna wiley as marian potter and john kennedy e e 44 as dr price m & c presents salt water approximately 350 couples at tended the interfraternity summer ball in grace hall on saturday night from 10-2 according to ed ward j cavanaugh m e 43 chairman of the dance committee the affair was pronounced a definite financial success and fig ures will be released next week muggsy spanier his trumpet and his orchestra provided the mu sic for the ball the songs selected and the method of presentation were even better than was expect ed and most of the students and their dates who attended stayed until two o'clock chaperones for the dance were prof and mrs wallace r biggs and capt and mrs samuel pierce grace hall was decorated with flags and banners of the lehigh fraternities and the balconies sur rounding the hall were open dur ing the dance dr and mrs claude g beards lee who were supposed to have been among the chaperones were unable to attend due to the sud den appendicitis attack of their son alvord who was sent to the hospital on saturday band to present summer concert a bronze plaque to be erected in memoriam to mansfield merri man former civil engineering pro fessor and the founder of the first hydraulics laboratory here at le high will be unveiled on found er's day on the site of the old laboratory according to andrew w litzenberger superintendent of buildings and grounds east of the vivarium to the rear of williams hall the monument will commemorate the spot where what may easily have been the first hydraulics laboratory in the country was first constructed the old building which no longer is in existance was built in 1886 at approximately the same time as the fritz laboratory it was de signed for use in student construc tion and figured prominently in research in hydraulics here at le high little is known about the build ing itself the plans have long been lost and no one seems to remember much about the build ing the only written mention of the lab known is contained in an old student journal of the univer sity engineering society the monument to be placed on the slope between williams hall and cox laboratory will in ap pearance be very similar to that erected in honor of dr williams in front of williams hall the plaque will be 24x32 inches the monument will stand between five and five and a half feet high and will be about five feet wide said andrew w litzenberger superin tendent of buildings and grounds the lehigh
