chairman of the student activities council sac resigned from the committee shanley announced that he was leaving to devote more of his energies to getting a 3.0 grade average which he needs to transfer keith snyder 74 sac president said jim shanley has done a fine job he said that the council will now have to choose a new member within 14 days he added that he will appoint mark under 75 publicity chairman of the council temporary concert committee chairman snyder described linder as out standing and vitally interested in sac he said i hope the council will appoint him as permanent concert committee chairman for the past three weeks sac has been busy trying to get its spring concert un derway shanley said he has been looking into a possible promoter bill honney for the concert he said that honney might be able to cover any losses from the concert and if the concert makes money give sac up to 15 per cent of the profit shanley also reported the results of the concert committee meeting which was attended by about 50 people the com mittee chose five groups from a list made available by honney the groups selected in order of preference were — mahavishnu orchestra rare earth fleet wood mac wishbone ash and the hollies objections to the manner in which the groups were chosen were made by steve b&w photo by griswold counsel — the legal action committee labored over the wording of its report and motion to the forum which would provide legal counsel for students new proposal favored over bill of rights setup the forum's bill of rights committee abandoned its original proposal for a university bill of rights at an open meeting tuesday in favor of a new proposal written by joseph b mcfadden chairman of the division of journalism the concensus of the nearly 20 people present at the meeting was that it was dangerous and unnecessary to rewrite the united states constitution and that mc fadden's recommendation was more acceptable than the committee's original proposal mcfadden's proposal which he asked not to be called a bill of rights was slightly modified by rich boig 76 committee chairman and daniel gomez 76 vice-chairman the proposal states that the university formally endorses accepts and adopts as its own organic operative body of rules regulations and procedures the constitution of the united states and its amendments any existing university rule that violates the con stitution would be considered invalid forum head not worrying by debby cawthon editors note the next issue of the brown and white will feature interviews with all forum members who have not attended a forum meeting this semester it will be worthwhile to explore what kind of remedial measures might be taken if attendance at the december and january forum meetings is poor said chaplain hugh flesher chairman of the forum although some forum members faculty and students have not attended a single forum meeting this semester flesher said that he is not as upset as some people are with attendance i think we have a good crew of people flesher said as far as i see they are scattered across the system rather than concentrated in one house they tend to be the legal action committee of the forum has determined that legal con sultation and assistance should be in stituted for university students as soon as possible in an eight-point motion drafted nov 19 the committee proposed that emergency legal advice and formal representation in criminal and civil cases be offered to all students the committee chaired by dr fer dinand beer and dr curtis clump made these and other recommendations in a proposal that will meet forum reactions in a meeting scheduled for monday other members of the committee included chaplain hugh flesher prof harry dower james fawls david newman and sharon siegler the motion provides for prompt and effective assistance in emergency situations such as arrests for anticipated cases students should be able to schedule appointments for legal consultation confidentiality in handling students cases is a key point in the committee's man dates the motion also proposed that formal legal representation be at all student's choice and expense a list of area lawyers would be open for student's constant referral the committee's investigation included consultation of six other public and private institutions and ad-hoc interviews with those counseling lehigh students on legal matters these unofficial campus coun selors include four deans of students — dean of student life william quay dean parr will speak on fishkin death at next forum the forum will have a full schedule at its meeting at 4:10 p.m today in the uc osbourne room included in the agenda will be a report from university president w deming lewis in addition vice president and dean of student affairs preston parr will speak on the university's response to the death of mitch fishkin the student life committee will update its residence report along with calling for a vote on the lehigh bill of rights the forum's legal action committee will also present its report and motion on legal counsel for students the forum will also consider the redefinition of the research committee in case of a recess the meeting will be continued tuesday at 7:30 p.m proposal to review faaa will go before forum by drew wofford the fraternity management association fma is an organization of questionable value and service said richard con way , 74 in the first of a series of proposals he presented to the residence subcommittee of the forum the first proposal which called for a review of fma by the university was criticized by fma and ifc representatives conway's other proposals dealt with building rh-12 enlarging the student body only if facilities are expanded and housing priorities in smags the four proposals were passed and will be presented to the forum at its meeting monday when the fma was founded the university decided that the fma was the best possible way of assuring overall operations said paul leitner 76 fma representative there is an audit now the annual audit is made yearly and is available to the public this year we will put out a corporate report leitner said robert reeves assistant dean of student life assured the committee that there would be an audit every year in answer to conway's question as to why there had been no audit in the past leitner said it's the nature of the whole operation it's not necessarily mismanagement leitner said that a lot of new channels have been established if you have any questions or problems about fma in support of his other proposals con way said it seems to me personally that rh-12 doesn't look too good financially yet at the same time there is no question of our
