coming registration of 18 and 19-year-olds on june 30 makes it of vital importance that lehigh students have the information con tained in the statement explained the dean representatives of the navy will be present at 4 p m tomor row in packard auditorium to in ' form students of the opportunities in enlistment in the v-7 naval re serve program opportunities to enroll in the v-7 program are still available although it had previously been announced that the v-7 program , was closed as of may 1 apparently , full enlistment quotas have not ( yet been reached a 16-millimeter sound film or iginally prepared by the bureau of naval personnel to explain the v-l program but interesting to all < who are interested in the navy ; will be shown at that time ] representatives from the navy 1 will answer all questions which - may pertain to any other branch 1 of the service all students still i interested in enlisting are urged . to take this opportunity for secur 1 ing a deferred status and being '. indeed others who haven't yet received their selec tive service questionnaires — are vitally interested in knowing what the prospects are of their soon be ing either drafted into the u s army or selected by the selec tive service system to stay in col lege and prepare themselves for greater or more specialized fields of useful service in the present war emergency following is a picture intended to clarify the steps which will inevitably lead practicably every college student sooner or later into some form of service to his country obviously any student who isn't applying himself thus seriously to the job of getting an education cannot justify his stay in college when there is a crying need for his immediate services both in indus try and in the fighting forces six steps to and his or chestra at the sigma phi epsilon summer formal which was held last saturday evening from ten to two at the hotel bethlehem chaperones were captain and mrs samuel pierce and mr and mrs fay c john j lotz c e chairman of the committee enough tickets were sold so that dean congdon will permit the dance to go through as scheduled on june 27 from 10-2 to date 270 tickets for the sar aband have been purchased by le high men sales will continue as usual and a great many more tickets will probably be sold be fore saturday night in addition to the dance being given by luis matamoros c e 45 and his date an attempt is being made to have another specialty the committee is trying to make arrangements for a blackout dance during the evening at this time the only light on the floor would be that attached to breese's baton lou breese the orchestra for the saraband has selected a host of popular melodies to be played at the affair his trumpet will be heard on the balconies which will be district succeeding aiken will be dr amos b ettinger who resigned from the department of history and government two years ago to become head of the history de partment at moravian college for men dr the dean will then be for warded to his local board at home there is no reason whatever for students going home to register because these facilities are partic ularly provided for college students to register in the town where they are attending college "... the only exemptions are those students already enlisted in the armed forces of the united states and i interpret this to mean those enlisted with deferred status and placed on an inactive duty this would apply to students enlisted in the army air corps reserve the army enlisted reserve corps in the naval reserve corps under the v-l v-5 v-7
