freahman parents weekend beginning today and ending sun day the purpose of the weekend la to acquaint parents with the academic and extracurricular activities available to their sons friday at 7 : 30 p m videotape showings of the university's band and glee club concert , of the university's marching 97 and of the undefeated g e college bowl team will lauch the weekend's activities saturday at 10 a.m convocations of the three colleges will give the parents the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the faculty and the curriculm of each school the college of arts and science will meet m the oabourne room the coll ege of business and economics in the main lecture room m drown hall and the college of engineering m packard lab oratory auditorium following the convocations a luncheon will be held m grace hall at 12 p.m af ter the luncheon the freshman football team will oppose the university of pennsylvania frosh m taylor stadium at 2 p.m the residence halls council will be host to the post game tea in the asa packer and osbourne rooms at 3:30 p.m the last scheduled event will be the pre enetation of three one-act plays by the mustard & cheese dramatics club start ing at 8:15 p.m m grace hall parents are also invited to attend the 11 a.m chapel service in packer mem orial church on sunday baw photo by keen an sly stone and the family works out for an enthusiastic houseparty prove their financial management by spring 1970 plans for a proposed frater nity management association fma were presented at the interfraternity council meeting tuesday if adopted the fma would be similar to the present fraternity service association but would have the following mi di fixations 1 an additional staff member acting m the capacity of fraternity maintenance supervisor 2 full participation of all university fraternities 3 pre-pay me nt of the entire fraternity bill by each fraternity man to the bursar prior to registration this money would then be allocated the the fma office al though a stuf'ent would not be able to reg ister unless his bill is paid he would be able to use the university's partial-pay ment plan 4 a sound investment policy under the direction of the fma office designed to put 4,000 per year back into the fraternity system 5 a budgetary review and uniform acc ounting system plans for the fma were presented m response to a september 16 memo from dean parr to the effect that a significant number of fraternities were encountering serious financial crises very often re sulting m substantial debts to the univer sity parr's memo continued lehigh frat ernities must be brought within a uniform management system that will ensure full participation by all chapters the man agement system must be adequate to deal effectively with finances and house main tenance and to ensure suitable standards of health and safety wayne martin chairman of ifcs man agement committee reported that parr had been shown the proposal and had with a few reservations over minor legal matters termed it a satisfactory plan ifc president jack kimo stated that the fma plans needed no official ifc ratifi cation but he stressed that the proposal would not be adopted until a large consen sus of agreement had been reached im plantation of the plan by february 1 1970 is the present goal each fraternity would have a represent ative m the fma's governing body which is to be known as the treasurer's council the board of directors would consist of two seniors two juniors two sophomores all to be elected a faculty member and a member of the fraternity alumni advisory council martin said the philosophic ideals behind the plan are the unification of the fraternity system while maintains house autonomy and the improvement of comm unication between individual chapters he stressed that the fma was designed with the specific intent of keeping fraternity management independent of the university the proposal is slated to be presented to the fraternity alumni advisory council for alumni response tomorrow at 10 a m at kappa sigma open faculty meeting decision is delayed the question of student attendance at faculty meetings will be brought before the faculty at its december mooting according to wallace richardson chairman of the educational policy committee ed pol the question of student attendance was re ferred to edpol last may when the faculty tabled a motion passed by arcadia urging open faculty meetings according to richardson the matter was not brought up at monday's faculty mooting because he and his committee failed to discuss it at their previous meeting this fall he added that during discussions they held last spring there was a wide variety of opinion among ed pol's members and as a result couldn't pass a unanimous resolution edpol will discuss the issue at its meeting on wednesday at that time they will have several alternatives open to them according to richardson including drafting of a completely new motion on the re introduction of the arcadia motion that was tabled last spring according to richardson tabling the motion last spring was the kindest thing to do from the student point of view adding that he guessed it would have been de feated at that time if a vote had been taken the arcadia motion recommended a change m the university's procedures rules and regulations p.r.&r which would have allowed students to attend faculty meet ings aa observers while respecting the right of the faculty to close the meetings at the discretion of the chairman or by a majority vote of the voting members present committee finds that supply bureau loses by steve malkenson author's note the following is intended as merely a statement of fact concern ing the present operation of the university supply bureau any suggestions for the alleviation of existing problems will be made at a future date people interested m working on a committee to form these recommendations are asked to contact steve malkenson at 691-2090 two years ago a student-faculty committee waa aot up to investigate the feasability of improving and enlarging the university supply bureau generally considered to be a disgrace to a university of lehigh's size and stature this committee suggested to the board of trustees that the bookstore be allowed to relocate m the basement of the new hall of liberal arts space which was heretofore unspoken for the trueteea reject ed this proposal stating that the university could not afford the funds necessary to con vert the basement into a supply bureau the committee then came up with an alternative proposal asking the university to lend the funds to the bookstore under the assumption that at some time m the fut ure the university would be reimbursed with profits generated through the operation of the store the trustees decided that this plan was an acceptable substitute and ok'd the request this should make clear the present rationale for a profit-making supply bureau now we turn to the question of whether or not the operation la indeed generating profit several weeks ago it waa reported to the student body that the bookstore shows a profit of approximately 50,000 annually which is subsequently plowed back into the university's general operating fund this however is largely a matter of deceptive bookkeeping to demonstrate how i will use figures from the fiscal year encompass ing ally 1 1966 to june 30 1967 see supply page 4 attention seniors nearly 400 seniors are delinquent m paying the 20 class assessment it is imperative that these students who want the yearbook with their picture and activities pay the assessment by nov 14 if it is not paid by this date it will be raised to 30 send payments payable to lehigh university to box 10a or drop them off at the student activities desk
