selectivity in umvermty residence systems aad coeducation the jcul serves as ths focal point of mi umvermty policymaking bodies all recommendations of those bodies are to he considered and either acted upon or awaapaaai to the appropriate umvermty authority for action by the jcul in evaluating the committee system of umvermty governance the specific functions aad membersmps of aii wpecial and standing committees win be deter mined tms evaluation wilt be carried out to elim inate overlapping tod duplication of effort and to facilitate proposals for action by umversity organizations the jcul hopes to emphasize that service by students and faculty on committees and ad hoc study groups is a great service to the umvermty broad-based participation will make the understanding of problems nm>re representative problems will be dealt with realistically and democratically because differing views of problems will be more easily obtained after the goals committee submits its final report in the to the interfraternity council on a charge of hazing succeeded at tuesday's special meeting after being pm on probation by the ifc judiciary committee the fra ternity made an appeal wmch failed a second appeal requiring a two thirds vote for suspension of the ifc constitution was voted through meeting 21-4 delta tau delta is now off probation the house admitted guilt to the charge of hazing made by the ifc fact finding committee they based their appeal on the fact that making their pledges run the mil was a traditional part of their pledging and was only recently defined as hazing jim baxter president of delta tau delta said that their case was a precedent and that the punishment should therefore be less severe than probation the probation was to have meant a suspension of women guest privileges until dec 16 with the exception of lafayette weekend the first appeal on november 19 failed by only one vote vote count to be given on sunday the results of arcadia's at-large election held tuesday through yesterday will be announced 1 p.m sunday accord ing to leonard poveromo a member of arcadia poveromo said the postponement was due to a lack of available help on thurs day night to count the votes and the tremendous job of counting the weighted ballots by band according to poveromo more than 1,000 students had cast their votes by the closing of the polls on wednesday forty candidates were entered in the race far 12 at-large seats udc applications applications for the umvermty development committee udc the joint commission on umvermty life coed committee and the university human relations commission are available mi the activities deks there are thr+t opemngs for the udc applications are due jan 7 tm jcul coed committee has three opemngs for juniors onl senior refunds all seniors who are eligible for the 2 refund from their senior assessment may pick up their refund on tuesday dec 17 in room 202 of the umversity center from 7 to 11 p.m refunds must be picked up in person and umversity i d cards must be presented any refunds wmch are not picked up at tms time wiu be forfeited mmmmmmmmmwmmmmmmm equal opportunity urged by john gustavsen the right of every member of the umversity community to equal opportunity for participation in any umversity activity and a change in class status requirements for fraternity initiation eligibility were the subjects of four motions passed at the faculty meeting sunday the committee on student life recom mended the deletion from university regulations the part stating that a student must have reached full sophomore status in order to be initiated imo a fraternity because of changes in rushing regula tions permitting earlier contact of freshmen with uppere lass men the committee saw no further need to delay initiation into fraternities prom the standpoint of the umvermty the committee stated extending the pledge period until the first semester of the sophomore year appears to serve no useful purpose and should be left to the disc re tion of the fraternity the first of three motions by the committee on student activities sac states that no group organization or function falling under jurisdiction of the umversity faculty shall practice discrim ination or in any way operate so as to discriminate against anyone by reason of race creed color or national origin the interpretation of tms regulation is not 1 mended to prohibit the formation or operation of groups crorganlsa ttonawmch have a primary religious function and thus have as membership persons of a common religious faith also a human relations committee will be established as a standing committee of the umversity faculty to be a consultative resource to the umversity the new commlttee also will be ah investigative body with reference to the pursuit of sac's first motion among the responsibilities of the human relations committee are ths recommen dation to the faculty at regulations wmch specify discriminatory practices which are to be prommtod under the first motion and a disciplinary code which shall apply to instances of discrimination the conduct of hearings where charges of discrimination are made or
