per cent university president w deming lewis announced wednesday the tuition for graduate students will remain the same at 550 per semester or 46 per semester hour whichever la low*»r this increase will be the sixth in 41 years the last increase raised the price of a year at lehigh 200 effective september 1964 the announcement of the tuition . hike has been made to the parents of undergraduates in a letter mailed early this week the letter stated that the increase had been brought about by rising costs necessary to maintaining the university's high standards of operation announcement of previ«?«js increases differed only in the wording the announcements ln 1960 and 1963 both said the decision was made reluctantly but was considered necessary to meet rising costs . . ." this year's letter to parents said a sincere concern for the personal affairs of the families involved prompts the university to provide this notice one year in advance every effort will be made where needed to assist in meeting this necessary increase in ih cost of education through under graduate scholarship aid and self-help opportunities when contacted wednesday evening elmer w glick university treasurer had no comment to supplement the letter to parents in recent years , tuition has more than doubled for undergraduates between 1952 and 1964 tuition was 725 per year tor arts students and 800 tor engineers a hike ln the toll of 1955 put tuition at 900 tor arts men and 900 plus a 100 engineering toe tor engineers another raise effective september 1967 raised tuition to 1,000 tor arts and 1,100 for engineering the very next year tuition jumped another 100 to 1,100 for arts students and 1,100 plus sioo for engineers the engineering toe was eliminated in september 1961 and a blanket tuition of 1,400 was set another hike raised tuition to the present 1,600 effective ln the fall of 1964 by way of contrast tuition at lehigh was 100 a year room ln the university buildings waa free p a w photo maury poscover 66 announced that arcadia is in a state of transition leading to the assumption of the planning and monetary allocation powers of the student life committee by the beginning of next year arcadia will have full control of the planning of student activities and the allocation of funds vice president bob young 66 reported that arcadia associates has taken over the expansion and publication of the sample examin ation booklet they also plan to investigate the possibility of a reduction of prices ln the supply bureau now that tt is fully owned by the university following many requests for a clarification of policy on study rooms young announced that rooms 212 and 213 are open for study when these are filled other rooms can be opened requests should be made at the student 7:15 p.m kickoff time for tomorrow's game in tvylcr stadium is 1:30 p.m canadian folk singers lan and sylvia will perform in grace hall at 8 p.m tomorrow evening tickets are 2 and may be purchased at
