student became addicted to drugs how would he he treated at the university these people need prolonged treatment and prolonged psychiatric treatment ur george w mccoy director of the health center ex-plained recently this problem can't be handled here a person who takes i^sd is sick and must be taken out of the community hospitalized and treated intensely robert r panos supervisor of counseling and testing and lehigh's psychologist said i would refer them to the health service or a psychiatrist to treat the physical problems panos said he has never worked with a drug addict panos mccoy have never drug addiction on the lehigh campus i've made and as far as been able determine no drug is function a to treating he other any problems come mccoy looking california he said i would suspect that they handle the nature drug problem panos is one type personality can easily last issue this ts the last issue of the b&w until after the holt days two issues remain this semester jan 10 and 13 deadline for advertising and news is two days before the paper is scheduled to come out draft procedures hit by john seitz conscription is slavery 9 speaking before a group of students thursday night the college program director of the american friends service committee middle atlantic re gion said that he hopes " everyone in the united states will resist military conscrip tion charles c walker's discussion sponsored by the students for a democratic so ciety was a direct attack on draft procedures now in use and the policy of the government ln viet nam " before the war in viet nam walker said the draft could „ have easily been eliminated now however it is doubtful whether enough men would volun teer to support the war effort he noted that usually when a nation cannot obtain volunteers there is very little loyalty to the government or its policies in opposition to conscription of any kind walker said that conscription is slavery and that the draft is the basic enemy of the democratic processes because military training des troys something vital in a person walker encouraged more stu dents to consider becoming charles c walker food poll being taken a survey of student feelings of the university dining service is being taken last thursday all students on the dining service received questionnaires asking their opinions of the service george carvili 68 conductor of the survey hopes to show through the results of his question naire that a large majority of the students are dissatisfied with the service the questionnaire asks for opinions not only concerning the present service but also of changes which could be made to improve the service such as paying more for more or higher quality food carvlll said he will bring the results of the questionnaire to the attention of the dining service the rhc dining service committee wlrn residence dean clarence campbell and the administration carvlll asks all students who have received the questionnaire to turn them in at the post office to box 877 as soon as possible so far he has received only 30 per cent of the 1,600 forms distributed carvili said he may make additional copies of the questionnaire available possibly through the student activities desk carvili will use the university computer to tabulate the results he said some students say they are paying too much for the service and others say it is fair although he pointed out many do not realize that the service ls substdized by the university he said that there are certainly many universities marty cohen elected president of arcadia by harvey l york last night arcadia xxl elected officers for the coming year elected to the post of president was marun cohen 68 who had been elected at large earlier this month th rest of the slate is composed of aldo borin,'69 who will serve as vice-president rick slowes 69 was elected corresponding secretary and jim tanenbaum 70 was elected recording secretary alao voted in was ted breton 58 io the post of treasurer the president-elect marty cohen who will take office in february had the following com ments to make on the prospect for the future arcadia " i feel that arcadia xxi has the potential to become one of the best a rcadias in lehigh history " al borln the vice president elect was earlier elected to arcadia by the sophomore class cabinet and made the following observation i feel that the work load of the new arcadia wiii be equally divided among its mem bers as opposed to the lopsided situation which presently exists marty cohen b&w phmo by mccaffrey winning banner at sat urday night's welcome pete carrill ceremonies was presented by the men of mcconn house more than 2.000 spectators were pre sent to watch the ceremonies and witness the fourth vic tory of the year for the bas ketball team sophomore constitution is officially approved by neal arluck the sophomore class constitution was officially approved saturday president casey cogut said he said that the required 517 signatures two-thirds of the class have been obtained following the return of the ratification petitions earlier saturday it was found that there were five signatures short of the required number aldo borln g9 who headed the drive to ratify the constitution obtained the remaining signatures our biggest problem in getting signatures was among the town students said bortn no concerted effort was made to obtain their signatures and so only a handful actually signed the petitions fraternities came in strongly for ratification but we had trouble getting signatures in m-m said bortn he noted that opposition to the constitution headed by ric wilson was most evident ln the m-m petit ons wilson andv terry ruefll attempted in october to form a united block of sophomore residence hall students opposed tothe constitution wilson stated that he is still opposed to the new constitution despite its passage he noted that passage indicated that some of the students who had earlier signed his petition opposing h constitution had changed their minds he also felt that any attempts to amend the constitution would probably fail for lack of support see survey page 9 see sos page 6 see
