by john fleming the long-awaited statement reveal ing the results of tests for excessive radon concentrations will be issued by end of the week according to pat chase of facilities services the study which has been under way since april 1985 includes results from 121 buildings and three separate rounds of testing in south mountain and murray h goodman campuses although the university's location at the southern end of the radon-plagued reading prong and the geological composition of south mountain make it a logical candidate for high radon concentrations no such excessive lev els have been found in any university building it appears that lehigh university does not have a serious radon concen tration in any of its buildings consul tant anthony lamastra of health physics associates stated in an april memorandum dean of students john smeaton echoed this position on wednesday when he said according to the data we've seen so far there is no danger in any of the university's buildings trustees to discuss athletic scholarships in oct paign participation ever 67 percent corporations contributed 6.9 million last year indicat ing in fulton's words lehigh's growing relation ship with government and industry the ben franklin technology center and homer labs being two exam ples of this new partner ship the president responded to written comments he receiv ed from an anonymous profes sor angeles and san francisco the tour maybe rescheduled however shah said the two who died were literally sprayed with bullets and their bodies were practically unidentifiable shah an allentown resident and a physicist at at&t's bell laboratories said the two who died were the manager choreographer trupti dalai 35 and the dancer rupal desai 20 he said dalai was covering up her 10-year-old son when she was sprayed with bullets one of the six dancers injured had received three bullet wounds but she and the other five are now in stable condi tion the sponsor continued they were flown back to india monday night to join the uninjured dancers when the dancers boarded the plane in bombay they entertined the passengers by dancing shah said it was quite a show on board but in two hours everything changed conflict with his son's graduation from prep school one other important factor was involved a lehigh trustee bill clayton met cosby while both were working for e.f hutton according to likins cosby wore a lehigh sweatshirt when the two first met which was his way of telling clayton he was aware of the university so clayton was the catalyst all of likins requests went through the trustee who now had an important relationship with cosby likins said in the five years that he's been here relationships have always played a part in getting the graduation speaker it was the same way two years ago when clayton helped land malcolm forbes to speak because the two had a personal association the same held true for lee lacocca william scranton and john irving the irving situation was unique likins asked the author to speak in 1984 and was rejected because of another engagement irv ing however did say he could speak at the 1985 commencement when it came time to select the 85 junior year of anywhere from 50 to 100 names of possible speakers the class of 1987's possi ble choices included nancy reagan walter cronkite and bill cosby a total of 33 percent of this year's senior class participated in the process and over whelmingly chose cosby according to class president lou bunnick the class officers then present president likins with the results and he attempts to get cosby to speak it's been going on this way for the past three years likins said because every class seems to want the same speaker the class of 1986 chose bill cosby but he had a prior engagment on their commencement day however as the end of the spring semes ter approached without a speaker cosby was asked again he then politely refused but ver bally agreed to speak in 1987 if the date didn't
