new calendar is issued wardens to be named will alter ? hell week all fraternity men who do not plan to attend the inter fraternity ball and who intend to sell their tickets to dormitory or town students are asked to turn in their tickets to mrs bowker in drown hall they will be sold there at the regular price and the full amount will be returned to the owner of the ticket if this pro cedure is followed fraternity men will not lose money by selling them at half price stated ralph moss interfraternity council president will publish early epitome editor promises yearbook in time for graduation ; cooperation asked john j hucker hucker is new head of apo scouting group to handle fbi fingerprinting at registration is most evident bach's organ toc cata in f major was a splendid ex ample of what can be accomplish ed by two pianos the grandeur of organ tones was excellently trans cribed also well-done was the counterpoint of two sets of themes from the blue danube waltz of johann strauss play moonlight sonata their two pianos failed to do with beethoven what they had done with bach the first move ment of the moonlight sonata was rather feeble and showed that it will never be popular as a double sonata debussy's prelude to the afternoon of a faun and fetes were very well presented as was the coronation scene from boris which was given the color that moussorgsky requires it was a treat to hear rhapsody in blue by something other than paul whiteman and two pianos afford more gershwin style than the usual orchestra and piano the most popular by far of all the numbers were the musical caricatures composed by braggi otti similar to alec templeton's mozart matriculates etc they were take-offs on bach beeth oven chopin debussy and ger shwin using the theme of yankee doodle passages of each com poser's wok was interpolated into the patriotic melody by joseph f kemmcr it was again proved in friday's concert that the best music is not the most popular even with an au dience of better than average mu sical intelligence it is for this rea son that the fray and braggiotti team was a good choice for one of lehigh's few professional musical programs their theory that the public will seek the source of good music that has been rehashed into swing was apparently substantiated by the ovation which the last of four en cores the tchaikowski concerto received however their rendition of the original had a taint of the faster popular version and if the entire first movement had been presented as promised it is doubtful that the remainder un known to the majority would have been enjoyed response is spirited nevertheless fray and braggi otti now evidently as popular on the concert stage as they were on the radio are where they belong their split-second timing and ex cellent performance merited the enthusiastic response the perfectly coordinated music reflected from one sounding-board gave the impression of one piano being played by a musician with four hands their style lent itself best to those numbers where counterpoint plan first aid courses soon caa pilots to take tests coordination is under way for triple grouping of university men the inter-fraternity ball will be open to all students of the univer sity this year ralph f moss bus 42 president of interfraternity council disclosed last night at a council meeting in drown hall he said the council decided upon the action after considering the prob able abandoning of spring house party a second orchestra which will play on the gymnasium floor of grace hall while harry james band plays on the drill floor has not been chosen yet selection of the second band will be announced in the feb 3 issue of the brown and white said moss after a discussion of the can celled spring houseparty the council voted to send president williams a letter of opinion on the matter namely that houseparty should be retained and that the student body should have been consulted before administrative action was taken moss appointed a committee consisting of edgar r conover m e 43 daniel b mc afee bus 42 and ross w lea ver ch.e 42 to aid the officers in drafting the letter dean wray don't seem to be aware of the fact that right here in the university there exists a weather bureau to make their con versation about that subject much more accurate if the occasion should arise the lehigh weather station is situated on top of the library there is not much of it visible from the campus but if anyone should take the trouble to go up there he would find a great many instruments and a great deal that is interesting most of us would swear that the weatherman flips a coin when he makes his predic tions but he really does have in struments to help him the only part of the lehigh v/eather station that can be seen it looks very much like the vane it dooks very much like the vane on the top of any barn but when it is investigated one finds that it is not merely a convenient ornament it has an electrical contrivance at its base which records the shifts of the wind on a chart in williams hall at the base of the vane is a con trivance that looks something like a small windmill revolving on a horizontal plane it is called an anemometer and its function is to record the velocity of the wind the unit of wind velocity to a weather man is a mile of wind which to the uninitiated is the length of time it takes a gust of wind to go a mile temperature is also taken care of there are special thermometers that record the maximum and min imum temperatures of the day as well as the relative humidity on a pole above a cabinet containing the thermometers is a bulb which has inside it a still smaller bulb containing mercury the heat of the sun causes the mercury to expand like a ther mometer and make an electrical contact which is recorded on the same chart as the anemometer and the wind vane the chart revolves on a drum and a complete record of the weather for don't seem to be aware of the fact that right here in the university there exists a weather bureau to make their con versation about that subject much more accurate if the occasion should arise the lehigh weather station is situated on top of the library there is not much of it visible from the campus but if anyone should take the trouble to go up there he would find a great many instruments and a great deal that is interesting most of us would swear that the weatherman flips a coin when he makes his predic tions but he really does have in struments to help him the only part of the lehigh v/eather station that can be seen it looks very much like the vane it dooks very much like the vane on the top of any barn but when it is investigated one finds that it is not merely a convenient ornament it has an electrical contrivance at its base which records the shifts of the wind on a chart in williams hall at the base of the vane is a con trivance that looks something like a small windmill revolving on a horizontal plane it is called an anemometer and its function is to record the velocity of the wind the unit of wind velocity to a weather man is a mile of wind which to the uninitiated is the length of time it takes a gust of wind to go a mile temperature is also taken care of there are special thermometers that record the maximum and min imum temperatures of the day as well as the relative humidity on a pole above a cabinet containing the thermometers is a bulb which has inside it a still smaller bulb containing mercury the heat of the sun causes the mercury to expand like a ther mometer and make an electrical contact which is recorded on the same chart as the anemometer and the wind vane the chart revolves on a drum and a complete record of the weather for
