has convinced arcadia to hold a fall houseparty concert prospects for a substantial loss on saturday's concert with wilson pickett and the steve miller band have made it very possible that there will be no fall house party concert according to figures late thursday only 2500 tickets worth r>2oo had been sold thus fhr since the total cost of the concert runs to 9,700 arcadia stands to lose as much as 4500 since the finance and calendar committee has only 5000 to backstop all concerts for the entire year this means that arcadia would have only 500 to cover losses for all concerts during the remaining 1968-69 academic year as a result of tms critical situation arcadia is unwilling to bold the houseparty concert unless lt is certain that its losses will not be above a certain minimum amount yesterday afternoon bruce berzin chairman of the finance and calendar committee and arcadia concert committee chairman rich sedmakhem an emergency meeting with hi living group preside the meeting was held at a critical time since the university must signup sly and the family stone for the houseparty concert by this afternoon or the contract win die to make the concert worth running university living groups must commit a total of at least 2700 students by noon today fewer tickets sold would mean more than a 500 loss if 2700 tickets ere not committed for sale there will definitely be no fall house party : concert since there ie not enough time to sign up another equally popular group for that concert on tbe other hand if the living groups commit more than 3000 students the concert will actually make money the total coat for this concert would be about 14,000 with tickets being sold tar 5.50 each or 4.50 with a student activities card it arcadia does decide to hold toe houseparty concert and it loses money theee living groups which today committed a certain number and later actually bought fewer tickets would be charged tor the difference the university has promised to force living groups if necessary to pay that amount the original proposal benin and sedmak submitted to thursday's meeting would have required all those units who wished to commit themselves to the purchase of their full ss per cent allotment of tickets for tbe houseparty concert this proposal met much opposition from living group heeds charles loss 70 member of the arcadia concert committee and in charge of ticket sales suggested a substitute proposal that was finally approved he urged that houses be able to commit as few or ae many members as they wished vietnam moratorium tbe vietnam moratorium committee e national organization io bring strong pressure on the administration to end the war in vietnam through national student strikes held an organizational meeting at the university yesterday in drown hall the meeting was attended by a small group of students interested tn bringing to light the anti-war feelings throughout the lehigh valley according to charles f vihon a faculty member of the group the purpose of the moratorium is changing minds and convincing people not necessarily provoking confrontation the moratorium to take place on oct 15 calls lor a day long strike of classes by faculty and students during that day the participants hope to reach out ta the community aad build a feeling about academic attitudes in the community don parsons 70 arcadia president door-to-door approach such as the one used in the new hampshire presidential primary by u.s sen eugene mccarthy try to convey to the residents the toolings of the university community vihon added that in the avowing a rally could be held in which a rationally recognized backer of the peace movement woum address tbe strikers he suggested sandy gottlieb of sane and curt cans who along with al 1970 according to kime the fraternities have been expecting such a statement from parr's office and reaction is favorable among the houses the uni versity is providing us with the impetus we needed to solve tms problem it is really a valuable service parr noted that while the extent of fraternity financial problems varies over time and that during any one period most of the local chapters are doing well the minority is large enough at the present time to provide a reason for concern this concern he feels is being shown by the fraternity leaders who are very responsive to suggestions for improving the system parr feels that what is needed is a restructuring of the system which will allow the houses to run their own finances but which will provide for a stricter method of
