public display of moon rock from the apollo xi flight shown in the mart library on friday and saturday drew 5,500 spectators from the university and the bethlehem area long lines of adults and students of all ages formed in the cold rain and snow along packer avenue for a chance to file past the glass case containing the 10 gram sample of volcanic-like dust although the moon fragments are no longer on view the accompanying exhibit can be seen until the end of the month included in the display are nasa photos of mars taken by a recent mariner probe photos taken by the lunar orblter in 1966 mt palomar observatory pictures of the moon and nasa photos taken on the moon by the apollo 11 astronauts a university spokesman said samples to be brought back by the current apollo xii mission will also be coming to the university for scientific investigation dr charles b sclar of the geology department and dr joseph i goldstein of the metallurgy department are involved now in analysis and study of the apollo xi specimens a university spokesman said we are gratified by the overwhelming public response to this display the university was pleased to share with the general public this physical evidence of our nation's achievement in space while on display the moon material whose worth is estimated at 25 million was guarded by two members of the bethlehem police force b&w photo by camana and doster long lines of adults and students formed on packer avenue despite the cold and rain for a chance to see the particles of moon dust on display in the mart library on friday and saturday the particles in their guarded glass case are estimated to bo worth 25 million they wore the focal point of a moon photograph exhibit which will remain open for viewing until the and of the month black exchange program set up with 3 colleges two members of the university administration have returned from a one week tour of three black institutions of higher learning in the south where they explored the possibility of student and faculty exchange programs dr drlc v ottervik vice-provost and dr william l.quay ■augustine's college raleigh n c.j jackson college jackson miss and xavier university new orleans la st augustine's is a small church-related liberal arts college jackson a state college about the size of lehigh and xavier the only black catholic university in the country quay who is also chairman of the subcommittee on the black student at lehigh of the joint commission on university life explained how the program would work approximately 18 black students six from each school would study at lehigh for one semester and lehigh would send six students to each of the three black institutions the students would study for one semester at the under graduate the program would probably involve students in business or liberal arts curri culums since the black schools are pre dominantly oriented toward these pro i grams however some engineering stu dents may be accepted since xavier has a i three year pre engineer ing science pro i gram which prepares students for transfer to another school for two years to complete their degree lehigh students involved in the exchange would primarily be in the liberal arts curriculum on the faculty level quay hopes for at least six faculty members two from each i black school to teach at lehigh and six lehigh faculty members to teach at the dr eric ottervik dean william quay frosh march to moravian scheduled for friday m yes frosh there will be a pa jama parade in 1960 through the efforts of keith snyder of the cheerleaders and craig evans and david thaler of the band the revitalization of the traditional pa jama parade has been effected the parade wiil take place friday evening starting from the freshmen quad promptly at 7:30 as in the past the parade will follow a route across the new street bridge up center street to church street and left on church street to the moravian dormi tories for a brief ceremony following the ceremony the line of march will return via new street west to the new street bridge and then along the same route to the lehigh campus there will be a candlelight rally commencing at 8:30 p.m in the freshman quad to conclude the proceedings for the evening lehigh students under the auspices of arcadia will serve as mar snails for the parade and will be backed up by auxiliary men from the off-duty personnel of the bethlehem police department to facilitate the orderly course of events bethlehem police chief edward donaher said ha has no objection to good clean fun but that his men will be instructed to arrest any individuals who are in violation of the law concerning alcoholic beverages bus organizer unhappy about moratorium although there waa a good turnout of valley students at washington for the peace march mrs anna hunt the coordinator of the lehigh valley buses to washington was disappointed about the outcome of the moratorium she commented what good was it nobody 11 pay attention anyhow " the moratorium may turn out to be a good thing but it seemed too much like woodstock she said it was a good thing for everyone to get together but most other people don't take these types of demonstra tions seriously she proposes a phone in write-in wire-in demonstration see related articles on pages 8 and 9 tms she says will show how serious the american people are in their desire for peace when asked what the valley had planned for next month's moratorium she replied that moravian is organising a campaign to send food to gl's " the purpose of this is
