seminar room planned band will give concert last lecture of series latins offer summer study opportunity to be given for learning culture of south america two lehigh students ranked among the highest students of the nation's colleges in a test for gen eral culture knowledge john l gretz met e 44 made a score in the general education test sponsored several weeks ago by the general education program that was two points higher than any score made by 2,000 freshmen in ten colleges thomas c macauister e e 43 in the same tests scored only three points lower than the highest score made among 10,000 of 80 colleges both gretz and macallister are enrolled in the general education program which sponsors the cul ture tests every year thirty stu dents and two faculty members took this year's test and only one of the lehigh men scored less than the average score for all students in all colleges according to percy hughes professor of philosophy who was in charge of the tests at lehigh the professors far surpass ed any score made by any student both here and at the other colleges these tests are intended to test the general cultural knowledge of the individual they cover a wide range of subjects including his tory fine arts history languages literature and science members of the general educa tion program may get their results from their advisers professor hughes is prepared to give the test prospective students university administrators will hold morning and afternoon conferen ces during which the sub-freshmen and their parents may discuss problems of college entrance and the choice of a suitable curriculum sessions with the directors of the various curricula will begin at 11:30 a m department heads as well as the directors of admissions will be available for consultation during the afternoon a concert by the band will be given at 10:15 a m in front of packard laboratory and a general assembly will take place in pack ard auditorium at 11 o'clock lunch in armory at 12:30 p m a series of definitions and standards of cri teria by the association of college honor societies this organiza tion has been attempting to clear away confusion on college cam puses concerning the character of many organizations which main tain high fees permit low scholas tic standards conduct and influ ence few or no significant activities or movements and purport to be educational in purpose ment of china were discussed by charles a seidle assistant direc tor of admissions after the club's business meeting mr seidle taught at the university of ling nan in canton china and is well acquainted with chinese life chinese conservatism is the re sult of the chinese attitude to wards family philosophy and ed ucation and the geographical situ ation of china declared mr seidle he added that part of their pres ent predicament could be attribut ed to the fact that chinaman's first allegiance is to his family and only incidentally to his country coupled with the fact that there are 300
