department 20 engineering physics students were the recipients of six notices the industrial engineers 63 the mechanical engineers 93 the met allurgical engineers 34 and the mining engineers tied last year's number of valentines with 15 during the last ten years the 680 mark has been topped six times but the university enrollment has increased steadily since 1934 this year the enrollment has dropped by 70 men below last year's figure nevertheless the number of val entines issued this year is only six less than the average for the last ten years although it is consider ably less than the all time high for last semester of 805 a total of 680 students or 41.2 per cent of 1673 students enrolled in the university received valen tines yesterday for scholastic de ficiency incurred during the first six weeks of this semester accord ing to a statement issued by wray h congdon dean of undergradu ates yesterday last march 741 students out of a total of 1743 received valen tines which was two per cent greater than this year fraternity men received 330 val entines yesterday which is 16 less than last year the dormitory men followed with 164 or 30 less than last year the town group made a remarkable drop from 261 last year to 186 received yesterday the college of arts and science sent out 104 valentines the college of business administration sent out 189 while the engineers re ceived personnel in chaotic times by dr cowley on friday afternoon in the fa culty room of the alumni building cowley addressed about 70 facul ty members and several students on the problems of student person nel at this open meeting he gave a short resume on personnel his tory cowley discussed personnel at the afternoon meeting from the standpoint of the student faculty and adviser counsellors in stu dent personnel must be thoroughly trained he stated an effort to bring out more than the intellec tual powers of the student should be exercised closed meeting held following the open meeting pre sided over by e kenneth smiley director of admissions a closed meeting between the sub-commit tee and cowley took place cowley speaking at the evening session championed the theory of holoism or the
