stated the national chapter's field secretary who has investigated the house's financial problems the statement came after last monday's house meeting charles rebright said he was cleaning house he issued an ultimatum monday to members that they either help save the fraternity financially or disassociate themselves from the campus chapter only ten students chose to revitalize the house under rebright s direction the present members are conducting an extensive post rush program m an attempt to gain more financial backing and to reestablish the chapter at the university rebright was requested to assist the returning members m obtaining financial solvency the university indicated that lt would only re-open the house ln septem ber if there was reassurance of the frat ernity's financial stability pi lambda phi's financial crisis re sulted from the insufficient number of freshmen pledged ten students were slated to pledge wmch meant 24 mem bers would c.arrry the weight of a bill intended for 35 members the annual charge of 1,390 per man would exceed the average costs of fraternity living by 240 william quay assistant dean of student life urged the house to initiate an extensive post rush program but no progress was made the fraternity then decided to call m the national chapter's official during a two week stay on the campus rebright will kick off a pledge program m order to continue the fraternity chap ter the pledge and initiation fees have been waived and " hell week was abolish ed m order to encourage freshmen to pledge in addition house members are attempting to solicit transfer-boarders for the next semester rebright who asks any interested stu dent to see mm at the house expects to obtain approximately 20 pledges last year pm delta theta faced a similar crisis resulting from the lack of pledge support and was forced to offer room and board to ten non fraternity members according to quay's letter to pi lambda pm president thomas car roll the letter added that the arrange ment proved successful for the house m the fact that nine of the boarders became members the officers of pm delta theta have indicated their willing ness to offer counsel and advice to pl lam rebright has expressed optimism to ward the re-establishment of the chapter on campus he added that the national chapter is concerned over the fate of the fraternity because it had a long record of financial stability u forum constitution is ratified by faculty after several minor amendments the faculty overwhelmingly ratified the proposed constitution of the university forum during a special meeting on monday ratification was expected since the faculty had approved the forum ln principle and the amendments made during the all-university meetings two weeks ago the official acceptance of those principles was delayed for seven days as required by university procedures the faculty after some debate passed the motion with the idea that the decisions made were not permanent but could be subject to polishing the constitution is an adequate document and able to be changed according to dr francis j wuest professor of psychology and chairman of the sub-committee wmch drew up the constitution the document reflects the general consensus of the university community and contains safeguards against control by interest groups stated wuest urging its acceptance ln entirety he added that much of the faculty power remains intact and that the constitution even grants the faculty some additional powers a majority of the faculty supported the proposal ln whole with tha exception of election procedures a motion to strike the electorial suggestions from the constitu tion was passed the procedures will be discussed at the may 4 faculty meeting at wmch time the university nominating committee will present several suggestions as to possible methods of electing forum members another amendment was made m the area of re-apportionment the motion stated that re apportion ment shall be made at the end of the first year and thereafter every three years ln a manner to bo determined by the university faculty and student body tbe third amendment involved a representation by robin reinhold the student body agreed tuesday m grace hall that graduate students will receive 17 seats on the university forum uf three proposals for the undergraduate repre sentative structure were also introduced and will appear ln a referendum for vote today and friday the meeting attended by 100 undergraduates and 50 graduates ended after two hours with each faction departing to formulate representative structures the grad uates will meet tonight to decide the apportionment of the 17 seats witmn ths post baccalaureate framework and the undergraduates organized a committee to draw up the referendum of the proposed apportionment pressured by the lack of time each student group must complete the election of candidates between may 1-12 as stated ln the constitution time also shortened the debate as many proposals seemed to be hastily drawn up under the knowledge that any decision made was only for one year graduates presented sets of figures that indicated the particular segment should receive between 16-18 votes on the forum becaus e the sets conflicted somewhat james selgas 66 withdrew his motion of 18 graduate voting members it was overwhelmingly accempted that 17 graduates sit on the forum after a straw vote was take n selgas stated that he would not quibble over one vote since the motion was m effect for just one year he regarded 18 as a reasonable figure since graduates composed a third of the university population with major support from the residence halls council rhc and the interfraternity council ifc john graham ifc president urged that half the undergraduates should â– be elected by residential constituencies and the other half by the original cellege level constituencies the pnoposal had been unamlously ap
