whites was the main issue at the black panther's free bobby seale rally in new haven u forum approved by robin reinhold in a special session saturday the uni versity's board of trustees unanimously approved the creation of a joint student faculty-administration forum and accepted its constitution according to a statement released by the office of public infor mation before making the final decision con cerning the forum six students and three faculty members discussed the governance structure with the board members those attending the meeting were don miles james kasser mike golden kenneth rilander graduates james selgas and howard bell faculty members wallace richardson francis wuest and arthur brune after 20 days of meetings votes and ratifications the various constituencies will begin voting for representatives and will finish elections no later than may 12 the undergraduates balloted in their referendum last thursday and friday and decided by a 2-1 margin to accept plan a calling for 10 students elected at large 16 elected by the college of engineering 11 by the college of arts and sciences and six by the college of business and economics the graduates will still be balloting in their referendum until may 7 tlie faculty discussed their apportionment yesterday to elect members from the departments the undergraduates will have 43 forum members the graduate 17 the faculty 60 and the administration five-members the forum will have the right to select from its membership two students and two faculty each year to attend the regular and committee meetings of the trustees as non-voting participants trustees will he invited in turn to attend the forum meetings as non-voting members the establishment of the forum is also the result of lehigh's traditional policy of encouraging student involvement over the years and of the u diversity's more recent expansion of all channels of communication among its major consti tuencies particularly in the last two years according to the statement it added however sounding the call on restructuring lehigh's governance sys tem at this point in time has been assigned to the university's articulate students who have tieen lauded on and off campus by the press faculty administration and trustees for their orderly and responsible actions the university forum could help set a national pattern for colleges in both its orderly formulation and its consti tutional content maisal swp candidate to speak at u robin mai sal socialist worker's party swpj candidate for u s senator from pennsylvania will speak at whitaker lab oratory auditorium at 8:00 p.m tomorrow night maisal first got involved in politics in the civil rights movement of the early 1960*8 and has been an anti-war activist since 1962 in 196 while majoring in history at he university of pennsylvania he discovered documents which later led to the exposure of operation spicerack the 485,000 biological warfare project founded by the department of defense maisal was part of a movement that was responsible for penn's abandoning the project maisal and swp foresee a society or ganized to satisfy the human needs of all its people through a dramatic distribution of the wealth concentrated in the hands of the corporate elite they demand a public vote on tho vietnam question and the im mediate withdrawal of all american troops on mobilization to end the war ha seal led for a massive peaceful demonstration in washington this saturday to demand an immediate withdrawal of all u.s troops ln southeast asia moravian on strike in related developments in the lehigh valley members of the moravian student body assembled last evening on tlie college campus and voted by a 341-99 margin to call a strike for today * the manner of handling the strike was determined by a second vote the first alternative of the four proposed won by an overwhelming margin the others receiv ing only token support this alternative asked that the strike be called and that a meeting be held some time today to determine a future course pf action the action at kent state university was a recurring theme during the evening as members of the audience brought the death of the students up countless time bill andrews a representative from lafayette college spoke on the action being taken at lafayette he said that some 700 students voted almost unanimously to strike he called for the members of the • audience to join together to present some united front to washington jim kasser former arcadi president stated that university president w deming lewis was attempting to arrange a meeting with senator hugh scott r-pa at which scott would tie presented with the anti-war petitions over 1,050 signa tures were collected at lehigh yesterday on a petition demanding immediate with drawal of all u.s forces in southeast asia the petition is being circulated at all lehigh valley area colleges students gather in new haven by allan b kachel and jeffery smith may day new haven 1970 ths green of new haven was filled by 15,000 demon strators called together by the panther defease committee to condemn the trial of bobby seale national chairman of the black panther party and eight other panthers on the charge of murder and conspiracy to murder contrary to the expectations of city state and national authorities the day ended without serious confrontations the significance of this " non-violent demonstration can only be understood in the context of the dynamics of the yale university strike and the may day demon stration on monday night april 20th the black students alliance at yale called for a university strike in protest of the ability of the panther new haven 9 to receive a fair trial on the following day the yale strike steering committee hammered out the tentative strike platform which con sists of the following demands 1 that the yale corporation call for immediate dismissal of charges against the nine panthers and in so doing call public attention to the political nature of the trial and ths societal repression of which the trial is an example 2 that yale reveal its holdings ln new haven and cease expansion into the corn gruen denies allegations in dismissal bethlehem's south side 76 planning consultants grue n associates denied holding secret meeting with bethlehem steel corporation and lehigh university and also denied that the arm had been pressured into dismissing abraham wallach coordinator of gruen's recent south side project crawford westbrook gruen's planning director in last thursday's meeting of the south side 76 committee denied the allegations made by wallach at the com mittee's wednesday night meeting the committee's chairman reese jones had arranged for the two parties to give their views of gruen the report that was disclosed to the public charging that the university was not aware of its responsibility to the community and beth lehem steel was the controlling power in the city
