above-mentioned en gineering students will find it poss ible to attend the meeting next tuesday it is understood that those ap plicants who are accepted by naval authorities will be detailed in their respective engineering specialities to the various technical bureaus and naval activities throughout the country the duty will be on shore and will not entail going to sea yarnell who retired recently upon reaching the naval age limit of 63 was awarded the distin guished service medal by congress last summer the award was for exceptional ability courage and tact in handling with the greatest skill the many delicate situations that arose during the continued emergency in china a staff of officers will accompany admiral yarnell to lehigh and will supervise details connected with the visit stone an nounced by roy zachary president of the interfraternity council tickets which will sell for 3.30 will be issued only to fraternity men each receiving only one tick et tickets which will not be used by fraternity men will be turned in at drown hall where they will be sold to any student the tickets will be sold in the order received the dance will thus be limited to approximately 750 couples band ranks high chester is one of the country's best known band leaders although he came into prominence only a short while ago latest reports rank him high in the field of musi cal entertainment naming him as a real threat to top supremacy among dance bands before organizing his own group chester was a saxophone player with many of the big time new york orchestras his first job was with paul specht registration blanks must be filled out by thursday no preparation for the examin ation is required and the results of the tests will have no influence upon the student's status at lehigh the examination will be given un der the direction of the department of education approximately 200 seniors including 50 arts men and 150 engineers will take the exam ination which is optional for mem bers of the college of business administration exam taken by 2,000 object of the examination which has been taken by more than 2,000 students in the better colleges of the east is to enable the student to see where he stands in relation to fellow students at his own col lege and other campuses and to enable the college to check upon its distribution and con centration requirements ac cording weeks course in diesel engin eering as the university's program of cooperation in national defense got under way the officers who are ensigns and junior and senior grade lieutenants are mostly from the eastern states it is expected that they will be as signed to naval vessels operated by diesel power when their course is completed the program of study for the navy men will include metallurgy themodynamics design diesel en gine theory and laboratory and work in lubricants and lubrication 6 courses begin coincidentally with announce ment of the diesel engineering course dean a copeland callen of the college of engineering who is in charge of engineering de fense training reported that six other defense training courses are getting under way these courses are primarily for men already em ployed in local defense industries the object is to increase the train ing of the men to a higher stand ard approximately 120 men from lo cal industries have been enrolled for the six courses and others are expected to be added this week the six courses include two in elementary machine design one in intermediate machine design one in elementary structural design one in production engineering and one in instrument design the first five courses are being given partly in bethlehem and partly in allen town while the last is being given in sellers ville a second course in production engineering is expected to be started this week in bethlehem classes at convenient hours five of the classes thus far or ganized dean callen reports are being taught by members of the regular lehigh faculty one period of the design course at sellersville is being taught by a local engineer the classes for the men enrolled in the local defense industry phase of the university's dief himself just to make sure there is no fudging and then the papers are graded an all-important process but how did al rights get in there well thatf s exams for you maybe he does grade dief's papers at the extreme right the worst has come to pass something has happened joe another joe has definitely not made the dean's list at least not the dean's list that they print in the b and w
