cabinet meeting monday night said that rhc would not permit the interfraternity cotmc , to hold a freshmen cocktail party dec 9 winchester later said this party to be held m two freahmen residence halls would infringe upon the sovereignty of rhc he add ed that he doesn't want any foreign government , such aa ifc to trespass upon the jurisdiction of rhc winchester also said the cocktail party which would coat each per son attending 2.30 waa an event to financially help ifc under the pretense of doing something tc help freshmen as an alternative rhc has said it would free of charge give the party to the class the same weekend dan sassl rhc representative to the freshman cabinet told the cabinet that f the class of 71 would like to arrange any social activity they could notify rhc who would then try to sponsor it the chairman of the freshman life committee bob westerman 88 told the cabinet the committee had taken ag23b loss on freshmen mix ers this semester a motion was then introduced and passed to reim burse the committee in other business it was announced that there will be spectator buses going to the freshmen football game at lafayette this saturday also nominations for cabinet officers were held the voting will take place at the next meeting the slick-balin combination drew the best response from the 3,000 plus people who saw and heard the jefferson airplane m interfraternity council produced a four-part proposal designed to overcome some of the weaknesses in the present rushing system sandy mc connel chairman of the special committee on freshman contacting intro duced the measure the first proposal was to delete the present re gulations so that formal association on lower cam pus by a group of freshmen and fraternity men ls permitted where a group is defined as three or more persons examples of this association would be organized basketball games or informal discus sions ln the u c between two upperclassmen and one freshman the proposal was passed unanimously the second proposal m mcconnel's plan was to delete section iv 3 a b c section a reads there may be no spontaneous or organized trips between freshmen and fraternity men to or from le high university unless officially allowed by the rush ing chairman of ifc section b was concerned with the fact that all vacation and weekend riders must be registered with ifc rushing committee section c reads freshmen are not to partici pate m fraternity activities that take place outside of lehigh university when voted on as a whole this part erf the motion was defeated an amendment was then added to de fine fraternity activities but the entire section would not pass because it was felt that sections a and c would encourage ' dirty rushing this sec tion was finally voted on m parts and part b was the only one passed the third section of the proposal involved the participation of freshmen m fraternity cocktail parties pub nights and faculty dinners this sec tion is part of the cultural boost program and may be the only portion of the proposal which can be implemented this semester freshman participation would be by random se lection to be formulated by ifc the program could involve five freshmen at a faculty dinner or 10 fresh men at a pub night or cocktail party the mo tion passed the last part of the program involved adding to the regulations freshmen are not allowed to vi sit the same house twice during the first four days of rushing unless the freshman has accepted a pre bid this motion also passed ifc penalizes beta after wrestling party beta theta pi will not be allowed to participate m the first two days of contacting during the formal two-week rushing period next semester the interfraternity council judiciary committee censored the fra ternity for the " chapter's acceptance of corporate responsibility for the charge of dirty rushing according to a statement made by the committee last thursday the statement said that the committee found that six to eight fresh man wrestlers attended a party not approved by ifc alledgedly given by the wrestling team at the party were 13 members of the house including tbe president and pest president of the house and the president of the senior class the committee said the committee " weighed the fact that m previous years the wrest ling team captains have traditionally held this same party for wrest lers always including members of the freshman team however the committee felt that such a party if it had been approved by ifc should have been closed to non-wrestlers " thus the presence of the extra betas would still net be justified the committee said the committee made lt clear that the corporate group called beta " did not take tt upon itself to arrange this party for the express pur pose of dirty rushing the committee also affirmed its disapproval of the house officers and past officers being present at the party despite regulation against this b&w ph by lynn herb ford 68 reports the result of his research into un iversity speaker policy at the sds meeting wednesday ford had met with dean parr to discuss how the university would react to sds s bringing controversial speakers on campus new solon constitution proposes gryphon seat by dee mcallister by a bare 2/3 majority after a grueling four hour session last wednesday nieht arcadia pass ri an amended constitution to be sent for approval to the student body important changes m the con stitution of another seat to represent the gryphon society thus raising the number of solons to 21 and the provision of new methods for recall of arcadians the constitution must be ap proved by 2/3 of the student body with at least 1/2 of the whole body voting voting on the constitution will coincide with the arcadia election from dec il ls john musewicz 68 president of the gryphon society told arcadia that gryphons play an integral role ln the university as frdsh counselors and that significance as well aa num bers should be represented m arcadia ted breton 68 and others maintained that the gryphor society was not really a student group such as the rhc or ifc hut were paid staff of the university and as such were not entitled to formal representation ln arcadia marty cohen president point ed out the dlsportionate representation of one gryphon representing only about 70 with two rhc members who represent 1,400 howwver after narrowly defeating one related amend ment the solons later overwhelmingly approved the creation of one seat for gryphon sds receives speaker policy clarifications by larry silvfrman and gregg fales the university's policy of approving visiting speakers sponsored by student organisations has been outlined by dean of student life preston parr the policy brings out the dis tinction between speaker
