the residence halls council has withdrawn its proposal for a freshman cocktail party which was to be held tomorrow richard sedmak president of the class of 71 made the announcement at the class cabinet meeting tuesday night the cocktail party idea was initiated by the interfraternity council and presented to the freshman cabinet on oct 90 the cost of tha ifc sponsored party would have been 2 30 per couple enough to cover the cost of seven drinks per couple although the number of drinks allowed would have been unlimited the party would have been held ln two freshman residence halls between the afternoon wrestling meet and the temptations concert on nov 6 am winchester president of rhc announced to the 71 cabinet that ifc was going beyond its jurisdiction and said he thought it was a pretense to make money as an alternative he said rhc would give the same party free of charge sedmak said the reasons for the party's cancellation were related to the fact that rhc had expected only 150 couples at the party however a poll had shown that 360 to 400 couples were interested the party would have then cost about 1,000 sedmak said lt would be too much for rhc to sponsor the afternoon cocktail party and have open parties after the concert he added that there might be trouble with the liquor control board and that two freshman residence halls might not be able to accomodate 400 couples some cabinet members voiced the opinion that taking over the cocktail party was merely a political move on winchester's part they said that the free party idea must not have been very well thought out sedmak tabled discussion on this matter on the grounds that winchester had not yet officially announced the decision through memoranda to the house presidents richard slowes 69 appeared at the beginning of the meeting on behalf of arcadia to promote the proposed arcadia constitution he said the constitution was " by no means rushed through he added that arcadia felt it was a vast improvement over the old out of date disorderly and confusing constitution john ryan class of 71 vice president proposed a motion to notify the authorities . of the prevalent dissatisfaction with the university dining service's meals the tehptations one ef the top performing motown groups will appear at grace hall tomorrow night at 8 15 the group haa toured the united states and europe and hava many hit records wells choir featured in dec 17 vesper the department of music will present the annual christmas vespers at 3:30 p.m sunday dec p m packer memorial church the wells college choir will join t_w university glee club and brass ensemble m the program the service will optn with the traditional procession during which the two groups will sn " personent hodie and god bless the master led by rev raymond e fuessle university chaplain the highlight of the program will be the combined perfor mance by the two choruses of bach's magnificat m d with the assistance of professional musicians casey cogut 69 chairman of the arcadia lecture committee announced wednesday that plans forjthe student-faculty forum on marijuana have been completed the forum which will he an informal discussion on questions pertinent to marijuana smoking ls open to all students and faculty _ members it will be held ln room 403 of the university center at 4 p.m tuesday dec 12 refreshments will iw served both cogut andprogram direc tor bob korshin 70 feel that since marijuana is a big discussion topic among students and faculty alike there is no reason why the two groups should not get together and share ideas at an informal meeting it was pointed out however that the forum will try to stay clear of university policy and existing marijuana laws rather as cogut put it " the purpose of the forum is to provide for an increased understanding of the phenomena of marijuana it is hoped that some of the miscon ceptions concerning the use of this drug might be cleared away enabling the participants to dis cuss some of the value question involved with marijuana smoking by value questions cogut said he was referring to things such as why do some students smoke while others don't aad is smoking beneficial to some aea dents in certain ways " the program is not designed to trap students into admitting anything that would indict tham cogut stressed " no one has to admit to anything korshm will make a brief opening statement declaring the purpose and setting the guide lines of the discussion it will then he up to the individuals tn attendance to pose questions ror the others toexaml w since no speakers will be scheduled it will be entirely up to those m attendance to promote interesting discussion if this program is successful cogut stated that there will be other forums during the second semester on topics besides drugs which are of interest and import rwe to the college student and the lehigh community tempt at ions to appear in grace hall concert by donald palmer tomorrow night lehigh will get back into the motown groove with the class of 70's concert presentation of thr tempt in temptations at 8:15 ln grace hall the temptations are almost universally acknowledged to be the best performing of the motown groups their poised profession alism on stage ls exceptional and the seemingly effortless ease with which they do their songs makes their entire performance appear almost casual they are all lead singers which is very rare and while one breaks into the lead the others fall back m intricate harmony their net effect is to completely involve the audience with their songs the temptations have had a vary successful career both aa recording artists and on tour over tho last tew years they have had engagements in every major city ln tho united states and bad an extended tour ln europe since the temptations started out they hava recorded a consider able number top selling records some of their most papular songs see tehptations page 5
