university di rectory the freshman from sec tion iv a drinker house who made the discovery immediately spread the news to the other sec tion members lost no time in finding pelzel his insistent state ments of denial were wasted effort for no one believed him a brown and white reporter who arrived on the scene decided to check with the registrar's office there on one of pelzel's registra tion cards it was plainly written that he was married which seem ed to make his denials only an at tempted cover up but on closer inspection it was noted that the word single had been written previous to married pelzel wrote single at registration time but at a later date someone no doubt saw a splendid opportunity to play a practical joke on him looking still closer the reporter saw that the troublesome word was in someone else's handwriting and in a different ink however even with all this proof the members of section iv-a are still somewhat skeptical three sophomores three juniors and eleven seniors comprise this year's list of married undergrad uates as compared with one soph omore six juniors and ten seniors of last year the number was al most topped this year but perhaps some freshmen will help top it next year i e's and m e's to take trips journeys will be made to new york detroit industrial plants the first step in the organization of the freshman class for a ban quet will be taken by representa tives of each living group at a meeting at 7:30 p m monday in room 466 packard laboratory cy anide junior honorary activities society called the meeting to start plans for the frosh banquet to be held sometime during the year cyanide announced that each living group should send a fresh man to the meeting a committee will be elected at the meeting which will make all plans for the banquet time of the banquet place speakers advertising and all other particulars will be taken care of by the committee of five or six men will report on dinks meeting wednesday night at the chi psi lodge cyanide voted to re port on a slightly revised system for the sale of freshman hats to next year's incoming class a com mittee was appointed to draw up a report for submission to arcadia it was declared that a number of freshman do not buy hats and that a sales system to eliminate this difficulty could be inaugurated cyanide also aims to lower the cost of hats to men who lose their dinks and thus are unable to abide by the freshman regulations cyanide disciplinary committee met in drown hall last night and sentenced five freshmen for in fringement of freshman rules one man will wear his clothes in re verse today the other four viola tors were made to do guard duty at the site of the rally wood pile last night all freshmen will receive their second general education letter in their next moral and religious phil osophy class stated claude g beardslee head of the department of moral and religious philosophy the first letter was distributed to tne freshmen several weeks ago in the form of two mimeographed sheets the letter explained the purpose of the general education program the second letter will be six pages long will give a detailed de scription of the course and will give the names of the professors who are working in conjunction with the program on the sixth page of the letter will be a blank to be used as an application for admission to the general education curriculum all copies of the second letter will be in the hands of freshmen by wednesday the freshmen will be able to take the letter home during the vacation and discuss it with their parents if they wish and they may then submit their appli cation before wednesday of the iollowing week by distributing the letter in the lecture sections dr beardslee hopes to get all freshmen interest ed in general education the general education program is offered as a means for students to further their interest in sub jects which they are not offered in their curriculum each student admitted to the course will be as signed to a faculty adviser who will suggest books that the student may read in connection with his mam interest the student will have an opportunity to meet with the professor and discuss sponsored the best pep rally this season while fresh men representing various living groups will compete for the best skit of the evening wrestling coa ch william sheridan will present the okeson trophy football captain william hau serman i e 41 coach glen har meson president clement c will iams and walter r okeson treas urer of the university are sched uled to speak at the smoker harry gunnison arts 41 will act as master of ceremonies robert p whipple ch e 43 is chairman of the rally committee seniors to be presented albert e lee ch e 41 presi dent of arcadia will start off the while bill simpson lehigh's stellar end and mainstay of the punting de partment will resume his diversi fied duties after a lay-off of two weeks caused by a hand injury woefully lacking in reserve ma terial coach harmeson has been shifting his team about in an effort to get the strongest possible com bination to stop the lafayette run ning attack and still retain a scor ing punch what the team lacks in material will be amply balanced by the infectious spirit of deter mination prevailing on south mountain and if the spirit is an indication of how things will run tomorrow the engineers will be twisting knots in the leopard's tail throughout the afternoon the 12 lehigh seniors are deter mined to taste victory in this tra ditional game while down easton way eleven seniors are determined to extend their four game winning streak over lehigh to five lehigh captain rates high as has happened in many prev ious games in this series the vic tory may not go to the strongest team but to the most dormitory council members were invited because it was originally intended to hold a combined dance of the town coun cil and the inter-dormitory coun cil when it was impossible to ob tain a large pennsylvania game com mission at the regular meeting of the lehigh sportsman's club at 8 p m last night in packard labora tory thompson began with comments on the condition and number of small game and bear now being hunted he remarked that there were a great number of out of state hunters after bear here this he said was due to the relatively good hunting in the state the scarcity of pheasants in this section of pennsylvania he attributed to the fact that there were many preda tory animals such as skunks and foxes he predicted a good season for deer this december saying that the open doe season would be a blessing in lessening their num bers this in his estimation is preferable to having them freeze and starve to death as more than 17,000 did last winter his pictures part of which were in color consisted of a wild cat hunt cook's state forest in its au tumn foliage grouse and woodcock white tailed deer hunting water fowl on pymatuming dam and the proper way to handle firearms in the woods the wild cat hunt which took place in cameron county showed the remains of a deer that had been attacked and killed by a bay lynx native of this state this cat was tracked down by a party using three dogs the cat when brought to bay by the dogs climbed a tree from which he was later brought down by a state warden the animal now reposes in the hershey zoo in a short meeting following the lecture arangements were made for a deer hunt in the poconos if this hunt is successful a venison banquet will be held by the club honorary business club hears carothers speech open meeting to be held the senior inspection trip of the metallurgical engineers will begin monday and will last for three days the senior mets will go to baltimore in cars and will inspect three industrial plants the party will leave at 8 a m monday and at 1 p m it will inspect the revere copper and brass company the men are go ing to see the pouring of brass in gots and the making of brass tub ing on tuesday the seniors will in spect the electrolytic refining of copper and the recovery of the gold and silver at the american smelt ing and refining company the third plant to be visited is the sparrow point oesper professor of chemistry at the university of cin cinnati spoke to the student chem ical society last night in the chem istry building his subject was justus leibig — a boy who wanted to be a chemist his talk related the life of jus tus leibig first contributor to the teaching of chemistry the talk was illustrated by slides depicting the achievements of the german scientist dr ooesper is considered an au thority on the lives of prominent men in the chemical field he has assisted in the writing of a book on justus leibig he believes that the study of leading chemists tends to make presented by randolph h thompson lecturer for the pennsylvania game com mission at the regular meeting of the lehigh sportsman's club at 8 p m last night in packard labora tory thompson began with comments on the condition and number of small game and bear now being hunted he remarked that there were a great number of out of state hunters after bear here this he said was due to the relatively good hunting in the state the scarcity of pheasants in this section of pennsylvania he attributed to the fact that there were many preda tory animals such as skunks and foxes he predicted a good season for deer this december saying that the open doe season would be a blessing in lessening their num bers this in his estimation is preferable to having them freeze and starve to death as more than 17,000 did last winter his pictures part of which were in color consisted of a wild cat hunt cook's state forest in its au tumn foliage grouse and woodcock white tailed deer hunting water fowl on pymatuming dam and the proper way to handle firearms in the woods the wild cat hunt which took place in cameron county showed the remains of a deer that had been attacked and killed by a bay lynx subject was justus leibig — a boy who wanted to be a chemist his talk related the life of jus tus leibig first contributor to the teaching of chemistry the talk was illustrated by slides depicting the achievements of the german scientist dr ooesper is considered an au thority on the lives of prominent men in the chemical field he has assisted in the writing of a book on justus leibig he believes
