new in student or ganizations was formulated last night when nearly 50 members of the four lehigh governing bodies met in the lounge of drown hall to form lehigh's first student council these bodies are arcadia and the three councils — interfra ternity interdormitory and town with little formality the new body immediately went to work and before the meeting was con cluded had taken several import ant steps a plan submitted by the student council of rutgers college for the use of their little brass cannon as a middle three trophy and regulations governing the custody of the cannon were ap proved committees were delegated to study the selection of suitable weekends for houseparties meth ods of securing football tickets dur ing houseparty weekends appro val was also given to a plan to raise the student concerts-lec tures series fee to 2 preparations were also made for an extensive investigation of the need for a study period before ex aminations and a controlled calen dar of meetings and quizzes albert e lee ch e 41 presi dent of arcadia sponsoring body of the student council presided assisted by wilbur chase bus 41 president of the interdormitory council roy zachary arts 41 and george j gabuzda arts 41 who served as secretary lee outlined the plan as devised by arcadia and the presidents of the interdorm interfraternity and town councils he pointed out that reports signed by every member of the student council would have a powerful influence in university affairs will have no constitution the new body is unique he said in that it will have no constitution or formal organization it will meet from three to five times per year and its duties will be so arranged as not to conflict with work being done by odk cyanide tau beta pi or any other organizations con ducting programs or investigations of their own the student council will consi der two types of problems at each session it will deal with certain minor problems chosen by the presidents of the four bodies at an aggenda meeting held before the regular meeting also it will choose one large problem to which an en tire year of study will be devoted the suggestion to secure a three day study period prior to semester examinations and a general reor ganization of the calendar in re gard to dates for quizzes and soci ety meetings was the one selected for this year's study in order to handle this large problem it was decided to assign one phase to each of the living group councils with arcadia to act as a master committee and coor dinating body the interfraternity council will work on the three day reading period the interdormitory council will work on the problem of arranging a calendar of meeting dates and the town council will attempt to devise some method of setting quiz dates first item to come before last night's meeting was the question of raising the student concert lec ture fee the situation was presen ted by roy b cowin jr arts 43 he presented figures showing that the low priced attractions now ne cessitated by the small capital does not draw a satisfactory audience and how a raise in price of one dol lar per student would improve the series the council voted to aprove the raise in price and agreed to prepare a letter stating their ap proval which will be used by soli citors handling student petitions the next point was raised by the lehigh university endow ment fund has been supplemented by the late ralf r hillman 91 buffalo consulting engineer and first president of the bethlehem bach choir mr hillman died on october 31 1940 leaving a 15,000 residuary the need for a study period before ex aminations and a controlled calen dar of meetings and quizzes albert e lee ch e 41 presi dent of arcadia sponsoring body of the student council presided assisted by wilbur chase bus 41 president of the interdormitory council roy zachary arts 41 and george j gabuzda arts 41 who served as secretary lee outlined the plan as devised by arcadia and the presidents of the interdorm interfraternity and town councils he pointed out that reports signed by every member of the student council would have a powerful influence in university affairs will have no constitution the new body is unique he said in that it will have no constitution or formal organization it will meet from three to five times per year and its duties will be so arranged as not to conflict with work being done by odk cyanide tau beta pi or any other organizations con ducting programs or investigations of their own the student council will consi der two types of problems at each session it will deal with certain minor problems chosen by the presidents of the four bodies at an aggenda meeting held before the regular meeting also it will choose one large problem to which an en
