browna and white vol.bo no 27 bethlehem pa - tuesday february 4 1969 8660331 zettlemoyer succeeds christensen as provost thrtjcteasw at the viee-presldential level of the university adnfmetfwmm have been announced by w dtnußf lewis university president dr glenn j chrlstensen < resigned ma post as vie president and provost at his own request and was gut taadsd by dr albert c zettlemoyar formerly vice president or research appoiatad to soccmd to zettl«mot«r # s position is dr dbaepb p übac who is also the dirwctcr of the materials research center and chairman of the department of metallurgy and materials science at the university the appointments were effective as of february 1 1968 * christensen will return to teaching and will conduct research of the teaching processes at lehigh he now holds the title of university distinguished professor ha had held the post of vice president and provost street 96t and asrrad as the dean of the college of arts and science from 1956-c3.cnns tensen originally came to the uni versity in 1939 to teach in the english department zettlemoyer director of the center for surface and coatings research holds the title of dis tinguished ftoressor or chemis try hi is a native of allentown and graduated from lehigh in 1936 serving on the lehigh fac ulty since 1941 libsch has served on the uni versity faculty since 1946 he was named professor in 1954 and has been director of the ma terials research center since 1962 when it was founded or christehsen hike kearney 70 entertains a saturday night audience at lehigh's new coffee house the catacomb kearney was one of several university students to perform at the catacomb during its opening weekend see story page 12 arcadia projects out lined by muce jeppsen don parsons and norm monhait president and vice resident of arcadia 6 outlined in an interview sunday some of the aims of arcadia for this semester and some of the projects it will work on monhait stressed that many of the points mentioned are only tentative plans an important function of arcadia parsons said will be to make sure that decisions of student-faculty committees are put into effect and sot just forgotten he said that arcadia will follow up its appointments of students to student faculty committees with investigations to insure that they are doing their work with respect to arcadia appointment monhait said that arcadia will seek to establish rules governing this procedure he said this would give arcadia more effective control over its appointments as by establishing a means for recall and reappoiniraont monhait also said that james h wagner registrar has agreed to talk to members of the arcadia academic policy com mittee concerning the elimination of saturday classes he said arcadia will also look into further liberalization of pass-fail courses asking for example that a student be able to start taking a pass-fail course for credit in the middle of tha semester in connection with academic policy and following arcadia's aim to investigate some university decisions monhait said arcadia will press for institution of high immediate relevance courses in each department these courses center on material not covered in established courses and can be changed each semester this arrange ment went into effect jan 29 as the university decided last semester to designate course numbers 98 198 298 and 398 as open slots in each department these courses can be established in these frosh upper classmen say rushing progress good by lou lightfoot according to various sources both freshmen and fraternities feel that rushing is progressing as well as it has in past years if not better dick miller 69 ifc rushing chairman reports contacting to be going fine with no major dif ficulties he said that there were a few problems with regard to interpretation of the new regulations but although there have been rumors there have been no verifications of any violations miller feels that sure the freshman group opposing the fraternity selective living system is not going to have much effect on the number of freshman accept -
