for the 35 students seeking office are springing up around campus as readily as the dandelions freshmen sophomores arel juniors may vote for their respective class officers on monday tuesday and wednesday m front of the post office m the university center the winners will be announced on flagpole day on may 16 the election ballots will not be tallied using the hare system of proportional voting as m the past the new system will ask the voter to give each candidate a number if there are five candidates for an office the voter should give his first candidate tho number five the second choice would receive a lour and soon thi hare system was similar but was more difficult to tally two referendums students will also vote for two referendums according to james f miller 68 coordinator of the elections the first referendum reads the meml>ershlp of arcadia shall be increased from 16 to 20 members the four new members to come one each from rhc ifc and the sophomore and junior class cabinets each of these groups now has only one arcadia representa tive arcadia is doing so much now that we need the manpower miller explained the second referendum reads the voting procedure used in arcadia elections shall be changed from the present hare system to a weighted vote system the weighted vote system ls the same that will be used m next week's class officer elections both the motions were kissed by arcadia with a 14-1 roll-call vote however both motions must l>e passed by the student body with a two-thirds vote fewest candidates of the three classes represented m t tie elections the class of 1967 has the fewest candidates running for president are steve wilcox and brooks zug for secretary roy schuyler and jerry sturman for treasurer jeff mandell and d'arcy roper candidates for the class of 1968 are for president alan bauer aubrey gladstone jack irwin steve rockow and david sampson for secretary gerald epstein and charles schaub for treasurer bob bradley ted breton and scott jaeger running for office for the class of 1969 are for president read beidler casey cogut walter cramp tom frost tom hunt and al proctor for secretary james cumins kenneth fyletnken steve pelrce rick rainln mike sllverberg pete skinner and andy snider for treasurer ludwig benfante steve edwards rhys foulkes sandy mcconnel ray schmalz and alan soschln draft notice all students registered for the 105 christmas saucon hall by may 14th selective service qual tuesday for further instructions ification test must report to fiji island is sunk phi gamma delta announced its non-participation m this year's house party it was recently placed on social probation after the harassment of safety officals by several fiji's they were however correct m one respect rain cancelled almost all of the scheduled picnics other festivities and even limited the traditional househopping 4 frats lose over 300 by tom roberts taken by con woman four lehigh fraternities were taken for well over 300 by an attractive con artist m mid-march dean william quay stated at the ifc meeting tues day night tom ramsey 67 treasurer of alpha tau omega one of the houses involved said a woman named jackie callahan approached him as a representative of the national student agency she told him he should renew the houses subscriptions which were already handled by the agency however miss callahan was not actually a repre sentative of the national student agency ramsey made a 57 check payable to the agency after refusing to make the check out to callahan she then took the check to an a&p store m allen town and cashed it meanwhile ramsey was informed by dean quay that callahan was a fraud a stop payment order was issued on the check and a&p absorbed the 57 loss dave gill 67 treasurer of sigma phi epsilon said his house lost 85 to callahan he described her as being m her early twenties a little heavy not bad looking m fact fairly attractive with a slight southern accent she had m her possession a forged signature of a mr ray riddle head of the national student agency authorizing her as his representative according to gill delta tau delta lost 113 and sigma chi nearly lost 85 to get a stop-payment order m time dean quay stated that warrents were issued for miss callahan's arrest other matters brought up at the meeting included an appeal of alpha tau omega's fine by ato presi dent glenn amsbaugh 67 he contended ato was not informed it was on trial when its represen tatives appeared before the ifc judiciary committee he added that ato's part m the disturbance was 250 at dedication of whitaker lab the dedication of the martin d whitaker laboratory of metallurgy and chemical engineering last tuesday was attended by a large and distinguished audience of approximately 250 scientists educators and engineers including three university presidents and a deputy assistant secretary of commerce dr m j rathbone president of the university board of trustees formally dedicated the 3,000,000 laboratory classroom complex to the memory of dr martin d whitaker scientist and eighth president of the university in his presentation rathbone took note of the exceptional skill with which president whitaker lead lehigh through the difficult post-war readjustment period to an unprecedented decade of growth and pros perity whltaker's 14 years at the helm of the university was marked by the start of the centennial fund drive following the dedication ceremonies was a seminar in which three speakers from education and government spoke on the topic of science and technology in the education community and society dr g bruce dearlng president of the state university of new york the equality of numbers-lt appears that the varsity band at its concert on tuesday evening was almost out-numbered by its audience william lowe 66 the student conductor with marl m e kipp 67 , student conductor-elect aiding led the band m the concert which was held m taylor
