benner judd advises parent don't lose faith m man this was the theme dr walter judd presented on u.s foreign policy m southeast asia to an audience of 400 friday night ln packard auditorium judd outlined four main struggles within society m which he repeatedly stressed the nature of man the struggle of people against old colonialism the struggle against new imperialism conflicts m the communist movements and tensions m the free world in speaking about viet nam judd said that fear is the reason for our present failures ln south east asia and that the outcome of the struggle may depend on which side shows less fear of nuclear war our country faces destruction which will not come but by default but he said don't lose faith m man he can be fooled for a while but not forever judd noted that ho chi minn is not after conquest of only vietnam he's after the world he compared him to a football quarterback m that vietnam is a first down but the world is the touchdown moving on proposal was presented to the presidents of rhc ifc and the classes yesterday for a straw vote the reserve fund designed by the finance and calendar committee of arcadia prevents student organizations from taking loses on the all-university events they sponsor jeff kapell arcadia finance and calendar committee chair man explained that the reserve fund " operates like a mutual in surance policy it taxes the organizations that show a profit and subsidizes those that go into debt sponsoring all-university events the revised reserve fund pro posal is almost identical to last year's the previous proposal was tabled at the end of last year because of rhc objections and a student petition opposing the re serve fund which accumulated 915 signatures m less than 20 hours under a motion that tabled students parent and faculty members braved the driving rain to attend the annual parent's day concert pentagon schedules viet nam war tour defense secretary robert s mcnamara will not receive an honorary degree this sunday at the university's founder's day exercises according to a pentagon report issued yesterday mcnamara will leave for saigon saturday to confer with ambassador henry cabot lodge and gen william westmoreland and to visit troops m the field he is scheduled to return oct 14 only twice m the university's 100 years have honorary degrees been awarded m absent la both cases involved reasons of illness and were approved ahead of time by the board of trustees dr w deming lewis university president said last night that no official word has been received from washington but that if the reports were true mcnamara would be relnvited for the june 1967 graduation exercises last week dr lewis explained that the university has been trying for several years to present mcnamara with a degree but that his heavy schedule has prevented his acceptance he said that this year mcnamara was asked to accept the degree without making an address he's a very busy man we want to honor but not burden him lewis said the president noted that mcnamara was not being honored specifically for his connection with the viet nam war (" he's an executor of policy not a formulator of it ), but as a distinguished contributor to american life and government m general farmer accept racial mood by donald palmer " the american dream for the negro youth has dried up like a raisin ln the sun we must give him back that dream declared james farmer former national director of the congress of racial equality m a speech thursday at muhlenberg college i think it is important for americans to accept the change m thought and mood m the huge masses of black people far mer said ln his talk on the civil rights revolution m the u s today he began by comparing the principles of today's rights revolution with those of the revolution and asked that " the american revolution principle of liberty be extended to negroes as well farmer compared the move ments toward woman suffrage and organized labor with the civil rights movement of today saying that the suffragettes and the workers used strikes ancl sit ins to further their ends and were eventually victorious he said that those who condemn negroes for marches and sit ins " have short memories " black power is not chauvin ism or counter-hate black power is polltlclal and economic strength said farmer he said that many mistake the term as a slogan which connotes black superiority and added that black power should be shared power farmer enumerated several reasons for the continual racial up-surge over the last decade first he said were
